However, it is my belief that getting 3-4*'s to play like 5*'s is far more valuable than being able to recruit 5*'s that ultimately stay the same (looking at you Sumlin #shotsfired).

Realistically where should we be next season with our player development goals?

Example: OL gave up 3.25 team sacks per game this season. I think a development goal would be to get the OL to give up 2.00 or fewer sacks per game. Our rush offense averaged 183 yards per game. While not bad, I'd like to see an OL that can perhaps push that to 200+ per game.

Good news is our QB will be more elusive in the pocket and that should lower our sacks per game.

Honestly ... the idea that we could take enough 3 stars (Mike Evans' and JJ Watts) and make them 4-5 star players on the field has been proving to be a myth beyond the shadow of a doubt.

If you look at the last few national Champions, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, and even back to 2005 with tu... all of these teams were loaded with 4 and 5 star difference makers from multiple top ten classes.

Yes, on an individual basis as to which 5 star will be a Speedy Noil vs a Christian Kirk ... but if you have 5 shots at getting a Christian Kirk it is better than 1.

No. It's a loser mentality to say getting lower star recruits because it's easier to improve them. A winner's mentality is to gather the best and develop them.

A&M has never had this before, can we let the team deal with it before we start criticizing how they haven't done it yet?

Goal 1: score more points than the other team next game
Goal 2: repeat goal 1 until trophy

You need to read the book 10x. Those are pedestrian realistic goals. Our goal for O-Line should be 0 sacks, 10 pancakes, 3 decapitations, 4 souls separated from bodies, and 500+ rushing yards per game.

I agree with this. It's not like a 5-star can't play better. It's not like there is a ceiling, and some of these guys have already reached it at 18.

I would actually argue that it's easier to get a 5* to play like a 6* (you understand what I'm saying) than it is to get a 3*- low 4* to play like a 5*- given that the 5* already has the raw athletic potential and proven production that a 3-4* obviously doesn't.

Overall, offense has to get much more explosive. Upgrading qb will be a part of that. Really hope we get Smith back- if we do- I have little doubt that is an achievable goal.

Our player development goal is to make them all bigger, stronger, and faster, and also better players.

Like it or not, 5* athletes are looking towards the NFL. Naturally, they want to win, but they are also trying to maximize their "brand" and
their draft ranking.

I'm pretty sure they are aiming for at least 7 Heisman's next year
