Raven's was weird. Something about mom finding a fax machine around town before he did and she sent his forged letter to Ole Miss. That could be a bit of embellishment.

One of the worst was Harvey Williams.

Who was the guy who was gonna go to Arkansas, but his mom didn't want him to so she took off with his NLI so he couldn't fax it in?

Back on signing day in 2008, my truck broke down just outside of a farm in Gillespie county.

Fortunately, the farmer was accommodating and told me I could sleep in his barn for the night, but the only caveat was that I had to sleep in the loft because his two daughters slept on the first floor.

Anyway, you're never going to believe this, but...

Not sure about favorite, but the worst was Corey Nelson

Harvey Williams was way worse.

I was too young to know exactly when what happened at the time, but Eric Dickerson taking his Trans Am to SMU was equally bad or probably even our worst ever.

(edit - But today is a day for good stories, not BAS stories!)

Those were the good ol' days when recruits were faxed their LOIs in on the first Wednesday in February or somesuch. No early signing period.

A lot of us were up at 6am waiting for word from A&M as the faxes came in. Nelson's last minute LOI to OU that morning precipitated a meltdown.

Wasn't it Venables who supposedly negative recruited Nelson and flipped him? If yes, we should remember that in 2025 and pound sand in every one of his orifices f he's still around when they start SEC play.

It seems "Favorite" and the stories of Nelson and Williams don't really go together.

I'd say I really like the Sirr Parker commitment, when RC took a call while speaking about his class, and it was Parker calling to add his name to the list.

He didn't do anything special, but the most cringeworthy that comes to mind is the safety that went to tu after TA made a huge production for him.

I was just looking through past classes in 247 to remind myself how amazing this one is and I'm pretty sure I saw TaTa Thompson was a 3*. It surprised me because I thought he was a bigger recruit than that.

Who was the super LB stud that fell in love with a stripper & opted to forgo football/ college altogether?

Back in the day (the late 80s) the Dallas Carter players stood out on signing day. The Evans kid (who ended up going to jail for armed robbery) signed in a hot tub while being filmed by a local news station. Then Jessie Armstead held a big signing day party at the Anatole Hilton. He was the nation's top rated LB who signed with Jimmy Johnson at Miami.

There's a flood coming. I wanted Kelvin to make it! Great HS career at Kimball.

Looking at those list reminds me of some good talent that didn't get the Pub. RC's DB class in '00 was good. Adam Black, Dawon Gentry, and Jonte Buhl. Keelan Jackson, lighted recruited out of Garland turned out to be an excellent LB.

I remember Eric Winston stiffing us because RC was honest about moving him from TE to T.

He signed with Miami, who promptly moved him from TE to T.

He went on the be an All American and played in the NFL for about 10 years - as a tackle.

As I recall, he was headed to the Hempstead gym to sign with us and some girl said Gig 'em and he changed his mind and signed with LSU. We had Percy Waddle and Lance Pavlas that year so getting all 3 would have been big.

Hoza Scott. Skip school and practice constantly. Complete waste of God given talent. Arguably the best LB tape I've ever seen.

For reference this is his sophomore tape. Unreal.

I like the one where god told the recruit to come to A&M.

When Landon Collins committed to Bama on national TV and his mom, who was sitting next to him, said it was a mistake and that he should have gone to LSU.

I am super sure this worked out well. Probably used his head with those life choices and never got a monkey in the mix.

Monkeys make life decisions problematic.

Kid gets a trans am to sign for us, then drives it to another school… whoops.
