My nephew graduated from OU - said his high school was harder than his OU classes.. for real.. granted he did go to a prep school, but still.

OU hands out acceptances like candy during Halloween. People talk about A&M as a diploma , please. Every friend of my son has been accepted to either ou or osu. My boy is waiting on A&M and Tulane. Got accepted to lsu a week after applying. Some of these schools are hard up for kids. With a 1450 SAT, he's waiting on the good schools as he should.

Exactly. Debt is a tool to be used. The UT System's outstanding revenue financing debt is just over $6.7B. Ours is nearly $3.4B.

There are tons of factors to consider about whether the debt is being used efficiently (amortization schedule, net interest cost, credit ratings, etc.), but laughing at a major university for having $1B in debt is silly.

This right here. A&M has more debt but turns absurd profits, and so has the ability to spend gobs of money anytime they want. OU doesn't. Having a literal boat load of boosters with deep pockets to offset the debt doesn't hurt, either.

And that's how A&M can outspend everyone.

You're not wrong, but when I read stuff like this, I am reminded that there is nothing noble or altruistic about higher education.

The older I get, the more it feels like a giant, more inclusive frat --- all of these schools.

Your nephew went to a prep school and could only get into OU?!?
OU does give full tuition scholarships to national merit scholars....
I probably could have got a full ride to my local community college but I think things turned about better for me financially by paying full price to go to A&M.

We're talking about the school (and for UT and A&M the entire system), not the athletic program (boosters), right?

Since it's a state school I highly doubt A&M reports absurd profits lest part of its discretionary funding (e.g. funds allocated apart from the PUF) be reallocated to other state schools.

You're right though that the athletic department is killing it.

They used to but they ran out of $ and have cut way back on National Merit scholars

My niece got her acceptance letter from TAMC today and I couldn't be prouder. He backup was auburn and I'm glad she doesn't have to deal with that ****hole.

FTR, she couldn't play linebacker but she can throw a quick out on a consistent basis.
