He struck out on Fisher, Riley, and probably Dabo and Stoops, at least. He was able to money whip a coach who doubled his pay.

Kelly is making $2m more than he was at ND.

Riley was not a strike out. Trace Armstrong represents Riley, Kelly, and Woodward. It was a power move by the agent.

Baylor AD seems to be doing quite well.

I think Dave didn't want to go back there personally. Having been there, he probably figured it wasn't worth the money. To me, that's a telling sign.

To back there he would have to be offered. I don't think he was anywhere near the top of LSU's list.

I bet he was higher than Kelly.

Can I have whatever it is you're drinking?
Kelly - 2 playoff appearances, 1 BCSNCG, winningest coach in ND history, took Cincinnati to NY6
Aranda - doing a great job in his 2nd season as HC, but still unproven

No need to be a dick. He coached there, he understands the SEC, had a good defense while there plus he's 20+ years younger than Kelly who's 60. He took ND to the playoffs and got his ass kicked both times, while, not even having to fight to get into the playoffs. ND's path is 10x easier than will be lsu's. Aranda has done a great job, not good at bu. Most winning coach while playing one of the more easier schedules.

remember when Wally Groff was our AD? Nothing but a boring ass bean-counter who would never upgrade any facilities at RC's request, and we quickly slipped in the recruiting wars. I firmly still believe that if we had a real AD who had vision, RC would have had an even longer, more successful career at A&M.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be a dick. ND in the playoffs is like taking a knife to a gunfight. ND can't get the horses to compete with Bama, Clemson, UGA.
Kelly is 60, but so is Orgeron. Jimbo is 56. I think you take Kelly's proven track record over Aranda's uncertainty. Aranda might turn out to have a higher ceiling, but it's not a sure thing.

He struck out on his first two choices (Riley and Jimbo) and then had to massively overpay for bad fit.
I dont see how he is overpaying for Kelly. He basically offered him the same contract as A&M did Jimbo. It seems to be the going rate for coaches these days: Tucker, Franklin, Riley etc.

No worries. I would take Aranda over Kelly for the reasons I stated. ND today, is not the same as it was back in my days at A&M in 1988-1992. Kelly is a good a coach, but ND is nowhere near what they used to be. They play 2-3 tough games a year and that's it. Aranda in my opinion has a higher upside and I think is more mentally built for the SEC than Kelly.

Woodward knew that the LSU job needed to fill the job with a splash hire from a power program. Aranda want on that list. And he sure as hell wasn't equal with Kelly.

It's not like these kinds of opinions are unique to Texags. You see the same stuff on any similar sites for any other place.

Aranda basically has the same resume as Tom Herman before he went to Texas. Elite OC/DC, with 2 years of HC experience, and 1 really good year as a HC. I think it was smart of LSU to pass on Aranda because they dont want another Herman/Texas situation.

Kelly was the much better hire.

Woodward is no Al Bohl.

Bohl was the Kansas A.D. that hired Mark Mangino. That was a massive hire!

Dude went out an moneywhipped a 60 year old head coach so he didn't get embarrassed after the first five on his list fell through.

Woodward is overrated.
Chris Peterson
Jimbo Fisher
Jay Johnson
Kim Mulkey
Brian Kelly

Pretty good track record.

Groff was a caretaker after the Sherrill situation blew up. It is true that we failed to pay attention to upgrades that we now regularly address in due course to give every advantage to our coaches while recruiting. If only…
