Honest question and not meant as an attack on the reporters in the press room.....Is there some unwritten rule to not ask questions that might make Jimbo's decision making look bad similar to what we see with the MSM in the white house press pool?

We get the same broad slam dunk questions..."so why are we dropping it, is it focus or Zach throwing it too hard"..."how much does this loss hurt"..."what effect did the 12th man play"...."What has (insert player name)'s senior leadership meant to this team?"

How about "Coach Fisher, for back to back games after struggling to run the ball most of the game Devon Achane has seemed to start to take over and got us back in the game with a completely dominant possession then gets no touches the rest of the game including about the last 13 minutes tonight. Is there a reason that he's not being given touches late in these situations?"

Would that be out of bounds for some reason??

They must be afraid they won't be let back in.

Exactly it -- press has to be let into the WH press briefings-- no one has a right to be at the Jimbo press conference...

you dont want to show up a guy who has to feed you information for you to do your job. You dont get him uncomfortable. Some times questions are off limits as the answers would throw kids under the bus. Obviously the coach would know how to handle those but still, why make it uncomfortable?

I do recall it being brought up maybe after Ole Miss. I seem to remember his answer being he needed to get Achane the ball more or something like that. It was like he didn't realize it. If HC does not know or control personnel in the game, that is a problem. Especially when he is calling plays.

Maybe because it's their job to find out information the fans might want to know rather than just ask questions that the fans can tell you what the same repeated coach speak answer is going to be? I mean I'd have no issue taking tough questions in return for 10 million a year. Ask away.

Someone asked this question and Fisher's response was something along the lines of we have two talented backs. Which is true.

Follow up as that still doesn't answer the question: "They split carries all game until the 4th quarter, why would that be?"

If you read between the lines he is basically saying that they are both very effective and what you are seeing is less a difference in their ability than the situation and the overall success of ALL the players around them on each play. They finished the game with basically the same number of touches.

If he honestly believes Achane's success against Ole Miss and LSU was a coincidental result of the rest of the team making their blocks for him but not for Spiller then $10,000 a year is too much let alone $10,000,000.

That still doesn't explain why you'd go away from even splitting carries in the 4th. They split carries all game until then.

Achane finished the game with one more carry than Spiller. So they split the load basically evenly. Your point is that you think Achane was more effective. Jimbo seems to be under the impression that the difference is misleading based on other factors. Either way, what the heck are reporters supposed to do, cry that Achane is better and stomp out of the press conference?

Why didn't you run Achane in the 4th quarter, Jim????

It's not rocket science or some super secret society knowledge to think "Hey, that guy that just led an entire scoring drive on his own, maybe he should get the ball again in this game". It's not about one guy being better, it's about one guy being better IN THAT MOMENT OR GAME.

It happens in sports all the time.
A hitter is under .200 for the year but is 10 for 12 on the season against a pitcher so he gets the start.

A golfer has missed 3 cuts in a row and goes to a course he plays well and wins.

Steph Curry has an off night so Klay goes off and takes 30 shots.

If that's honestly his reasoning what you insinuate, it's moronic. It's basically saying he was good by accident there and it's an outlier so just forget about it.

It's not rocket science huh. I just looked up the stats for LSU. Achane finished with almost twice as many YPC as Spiller which seems impressive until you look at how he got them. He had TWO long carries in a single drive. When you look at it this way it's easy to believe that it could have been missed assignments by either the offense or defense as a key contributing factor. A better question that the media should be asking is why did we average about two yards per carry outside those two runs.

It's all in the way you frame the question. "Was Achane injured in the 4th quarter?" asks the same question without appearing offensive.

Keep in mind reporters also know that coaches aren't going to be honest. They are going to use coach-speak no matter what the question is.

So when you are a beat writer, and you have to be around the program every day, you eventually give up and stop asking uncomfortable questions, especially after a loss. If there is a major breaking story, it's a little different, but the "why didn't Achane get more carries" type of questions probably seem like more trouble than they are worth.

Thats the question i would have wanted to be asked. We were getting demolished in the run game up until spiller got a few 5+ yard runs then achane with his 2 big runs. Why did it take so long to get anything going as far as the run game. I know lsu blitzes but you can parry a blitzing defense with the run too.

Another question i would have loved to see would be with regards to how we were able to scheme so well in the passing game to have one of the more successful and efficient performances by calzone
