This has been the unanimous thought at the end of every November collapse for the last 20+ years, but yet "next year greatness" somehow alludes us in the following year.

There are lots of reasons to view the team's trajectory positively. If you can't find any, try harder…

I sure hope we are better next year, but check out a list of people leaving:

DC Elko (likely)
LT Johnson
LG Green (likely)
TE Wydermyer (likely)
RB Spiller (likely)
DE Johnson
DE Clemons
NT Leal (likely)
DT Peevy
FS O'Neal
PK Small

Not sure I would put Elko in the likely pool. Yes we are losing some quality players but so does everyone else. You think ole miss won't miss corral? Or Arkansas won't miss 7 of 11 defensive starters who were super seniors? Our recruiting has put more 4 and 5 stars on our roster than any other time in Aggie history. We're about to sign a top 1-3 recruiting class. So I like our chances to improve next year. The one caveat would be catastrophic injuries like we experienced this past season. Injuries can derail even the best of teams.

Here's the good news, Jimbo reloads rather than rebuilds .

The bad news is we'll have to wait until next year to find out.

Jimbo has our roster busting at the seams with 4 and 5 stars. We will be fine. Just have to get the QB position locked in.

that's true if you're satisfied with less than 10-win seasons. has a magazine full of those.

It's "farmers fight". Not farmers fight unless it doesn't work out again the way we had hoped.

A lot depends on the QB but not "all."

240 yards, 3 TD and no INT with a 67% completion percentage (if youre receivers catch the ball) should have been enough to beat LSU. The fact that we lost with those stats tells me there is more amiss than JUST the QB.

But a great QB is a big step in the right direction.

ETA: enough to beat LSU, not Bama

Also has a National championship and recruits like
No one we have ever had before. I'm not saying he's the end all-be all but he does recruit top
Flight talent every year which is a significant piece of the formula for winning championships

Who knows?

But it will be interesting to see if King makes it back. And what Calzada does.

Whatever happens, Calzada played hurt and was a trooper for the Ags this year. And the Bama win was priceless. Props to him.

Yes. It was disappointing to lose our last 2 SEC games at Ole Miss and at LSU to drop to 8-4 (4-4 SEC), but I believe we will finish with 9 or 10 regular season wins next year.

Jimbo's November/December SEC record, Final SEC record
2018: 2-1, 5-3
2019: 1-2, 4-4
2020: 4-0, 8-1
2021: 1-2, 8-5

Jimbo is 8-5 in November/December SEC games, and 21-12 in all SEC games. Because we had strong November/December finishes in 2018 and 2020, we posted winning SEC records in those 2 years. In 2019, we ended the regular season with back to back road games at No. 4 Georgia and No. 2 LSU. In 2021, we had a road game at No. 15 Ole Miss. The only disappointing November losses were a 28-24 loss at Auburn in 2018 and a 27-24 loss at LSU in 2021. We just need better coaching from Jimbo and his staff and execution from our players to win road games.

Kevin Sumlin's November SEC Record, Final SEC record
2012: 3-0, 6-2
2013: 1-2, 4-4
2014: 1-2, 3-5
2015: 1-2, 4-4
2016: 0-3, 4-4
2017: 1-2, 4-4

Kevin Sumlin went 7-11 in November SEC games and 25-23 in all SEC games, but that includes 3-0 November SEC record and 6-2 SEC record in 2012. Since 2013, Sumlin went just 4-11 in November SEC games, including 0-6 in November SEC games at Kyle Field from 2014 to 2017. That's why he never posted another winning SEC record, not even with Johnny Manziel in 2013.

Offense will be better.

Defense will regress a little.

Overall, I think we'll be better. A better offense will take some of the load off the defense.

I think our O will be better to much better with experienced OL and more dynamic QB play, D still good but not as good. As for our opponents:

Ole Miss will be worse due to loss of Corral who is a great QB.
Pig will lose a ton of 5th and 6th year seniors.
State - not worried about them, we beat them with even average QB play IMHO.
Auburn - will be about the same and beatable either way, they take a big step back if Nix leaves but I don't think he will.
LSU - who knows but I think we beat them at home.
Bama - will be Bama and better than this season.

SC - will still suck and we will beat them by 20+ in their stadium.
FL - will be more competitive but I don't think good enough to win at Kyle Field.

Miami - they are a train-wreck if they keep Diaz or not.

App. State - this will be a fun scrappy non-con. game. Not a total dog game but a comfortable W.

Right now I would put us at 9-3 going into the season at worst.

other than QB what other catastrophic injuries?

and despite that catastrophic injury A&M still beat Alabama (11-1)

and yet still lost to LSU (6-6).

the bigger issue was the team's inconsistent performance...home vs. road

What is amiss in your analysis is: how many of those passing yards were YAC, lack of a running game as Zach is not an accurate passer or downfield passer, lack of QB running threat, at least 2 plays where he basically sacked himself, etc. etc.

We didn't break 300 yards of total offense, we got into a 10-0 hole, etc. So much of it comes down to and back to QB making plays. Zach is a bus driver. A tough as nails gutty Aggie QB, but not a difference maker IMHO.

It's not like our receivers were breaking tackles, the YAC was because Zach got it to wide open dudes, which good QBs do. Like I said, every QB has bad plays, every QB is gonna go down behind the LoS. The running game underperformed more than the passing game so if we want to complain about being under 300 yards, point your finger there.

You're not wrong though. My point wasn't that Zach is a great QB. My point was that we are more than a QB away from where we want to be because the post I quoted said it ALL depends on that, and I just think there are more issues between us and an SEC title than JUST a QB.

Wishlist for next year: accurate passer to Moose/? to actually stretch the field, o line that can make holes for achane/? and protect the above mentioned passer. Plus would be scrambling ability for said passer. Elko must stay

Dear Diary,

Well Alabama game was fun, Auburn was kinda fun.

It's all about the journey but the journey was "meh" in 2021. I spend too much time thinking about Aggie football, maybe I should just let it go.

That's all for now.
