What is the most important on the field... QB

Why does A&M shy away from recruiting two scholarship-worthy QBs when it is the most important position. In an era of the transfer portal, players leaving freely and more willingly currently - all while injuries happen like what happened to our "messiah" Haynes King. Thus, leaving us with Calzada, Stowers, and true freshman walk-on Bost (if he truly counts, IMO he doesn't). Then, our true freshman QB, Stowers quickly is found to not be able to throw a football leaving us without a scholarship QB for the 2021 class.

We truly need to recruit 2 QBs a class in my opinion and or take in older proven transfer players to bolster our depth and competition at the position not alienating ourselves to one hope that can easily fall to injury as King did! What is more valuable to a roster the 6th Dline recruit in a class or a 2nd QB?!

I am not saying go for quantity over quality - I am saying why can we not recruit a high 4/5 star QB and also land a low-end 4 or high 3 star to bolster depth and not leave us in the situation we are in today.

Iron sharpens Iron and right now there are not enough swords in the fire with a depleted QB room

Our Current Situation:

2017 - None - Connor Blumrick - Transfer to VT / Kellen Mond - Pros
2018 - None - James Foster -Transfer
2019 - 1 - Zach Calaza**
2020 - 1 - Haynes King
2021 - 0 - Eli Stowers - is sadly not a QB which the coaches quickly found out
---------------- Not on Campus Yet
2022 - 1 - Connor Weigman
2023 - 1 - Holstein

*** Important to know Calzada was a last-second scramble get for a newly hired Jimbo Fisher as long-time highly rated recruit Grant Gunnell left with Sumlin for Arizona leaving us for the crumbs of not committed prospects.

We evaluate and recruit several QBs in a class... then decide which one to make the hardest push for.

We can't just pick who we want to be on the roster. If a high profile QB sees we have another high profile QB already committed, that is going to turn him off and push him to go play somewhere else. That's just the way it is.

two top flight qbs are not regularly committing to a&m in a year. maybe bama but not here. the 1 qb per year model was fine when they had to stick around without the easy transfer portal option but that issue is not unique to us. I'd rather have one 4-5 star per year than two 3 stars per year.

This happens in maybe 5-10 classes and probably not with two as quality as you want

You can't stockpile 4* QB talent
On the "Jett Huff" thread I suggested having a 3 star guy who is happy to hold a clipboard for a top 20 program might be the way to go

Seems like having a three star guy who's been in the program several years and really knows the system as the emergency back up is preferable to what we currently have

Basically have a Major Applewhite caliber QB somewhere on the depth chart

That doesn't exist anymore in the transfer portal era, kids want to play.

This is fan fic, most kids don't have that much attachment to a school like an alum

that seemed to be the model under leach. plug in the next guy with time in the system. get the ball out quick. decision-making at a premium without asking them to make many difficult throws.

Very few programs are able to retain two high level QBs in the same class. Players want to go where they can maximize their chances and it makes way more sense to go to a good program where you're in the pole position for a starting job (even if you sit a year) than to constantly battle it out just to have a chance to secure the backup role. At best you can do what Bama did and take a 3* along with your big ticket guy (Mac Jones and Tua, respectively).

We missed on a couple guys and had an entrenched starter in Mond which didn't make us a particularly desirable destination.

Yep, and that got Leach how many Conference titles?

We need 3 QBs at all times ready to play. I do not care their age or what year they came in. These guys get hurt. We had 2 QBs hurt this year. Calzada played injured half the year.
