New coach; more money; same results. Wash, rinse, repeat

After last night, not sure what the difference is. Same records after 4 years.

Sumlin had a .500 record in sec play his last three seasons. Year four of jimbo and that's where he is.

Not really.

We like Jimbo more as he fits our culture better.

We like a solid defense and methodical offense vs Sumlins air raid/no defense, etc.

Country music vs hip-hop.

But the result is the same.

Sumlin minus Nzone could call plays...hell even spaz wasna better playcaller

Except Jimbo has better overall talent.

the current result seems the same - but one shows potential and one fell off a cliff. Building towards sustained success vs scheming something together to get an extra win every couple of years.

But by all means let's pull the rip cord and start all over again.

If you can't see the difference, you don't know football. Record alone is a lazy comparison.

I think we're closer than being made out. If we had a plus QB, were looking at playoffs. One player. Instead we had a hobbled backup. Predictable.

Sumlin got blown out in losses, where we looked like we didn't belong on the field. Has not happened like that with Jimbo. Sumlin also could not recruit or develop.

Sumlin's mismanagenent cost Kyler Murray and a heisman.
Class of 94. We never lost at Kyle Field!

I eagerly await next year's results as I don't expect to backslide but to progress instead. But in the long run, record is the only thing that really counts.

We're paying the big bucks for championships, not a better product on the field but the same tired record.

I'd rather have Fran coach over sumlin who literally promised two guys ( Allen, Murray ) they were the starter before the season started … and then played them both at the same time what a loser

The ONLY thing that has changed is the face, and the office paint. Same results at a higher price.

We would be undefeated if we had JFF, instead of happy feet.

Felt like Sumlin but not Sumlin. Coach Sumlin had way better QBs when this was happening. Even Hubenak was better than Calzada.
I will never understand how someone can tell so many lies and not feel bad about it...

Jimbo with Jake Hubenak would have won this game

The Sumlin comparison here is only possible because he got to ride Johnny to some extra wins in the first two years. Remove Johnny and Sumlin would've revealed himself to be the absolute disaster he was much earlier.

Probably an equally lazy take, but Dabo was 32-22 his first 4 seasons at Clemson.

sure- but we gotta actually see the "long run" for once since RC. Obviously Fran was wrong from the start and Sumlin was headed nose down (I think Sherman was building something)… but Jimbo is changing things and we gotta look forward to the results.

I don't want to pile on Zach- but I feel like Jimbo with Trevor Knight would have been something.

No way would this team be bowl eligible with Sumlin. Defense would be trash and offensive output would be around the same.

In the words of Andy from the office "That was an overreaction…"

that's part of the frustration.

Sumlin's strengths were QB and WR.

with Jimbo...those 2 positions are his weakness thru 4 years

At some point I'm going to run the numbers, but I expect to see that through this amount of time, Jimbo has better classes and those classes are much more heavily weighted towards linemen vs receivers.

This season isn't what I wanted to see so hopefully we take a step forward next year, but we're doing all the right things when it comes to building a strong base of top-tier defenders and linemen, investing in facilities and stability on the coaching staff, and managing development through redshirts and playing time (with the notable exception of quarterback).

The play calling in the last two minutes of the LSU game seemed pretty inexplicable to me, especially on defense. Not sure how to address that.

I think we're going to put it together and go on a run of competitive seasons, the roster is set up for it now much better than it has been at any point I can remember. 2012 might have been a better single-year roster, but there was zero defensive depth.

Bama smashed Sumlin 59-0
LSU smashed Jimbo 50-7

It's pretty shortsighted to continually parrot this without further analysis. Jimbo was robbed of likely two victories last year due to the COVID chaos, with games not being played. Also the 2019 schedule was one of the most brutal in NCAA history. Jimbo has been somewhat disappointing, but simply looking at total wins the first four years between Sumlin and Fisher is problematic (Sumlin's first year was all Johnny, Evans, and the greatest o-line in school history....nonevof which he recruited nor developed).

Not to mention we got jobbed against Georgia. That face mask pull down on our corner on their TD still makes my blood boil….
