I remember Leon being in the transfer portal at some point a year or two ago. Obviously, he ended up staying at A&M. Anyone know the story behind him almost transferring?

He was pretty open about it, he lost his job, and was pissed because he wanted to play. He sat down did the work, at practice, on the field, and in the film room and it's payed off.

I don't know a lot of the details but back in the developmental day when Leon either made an amazing play or gave up a 40 yard pass, he got pulled from the game and benched. I think he had blown a couple of plays and then committed a foolish penalty that was just his emotion getting the best of him.

Anyway, once he got pulled and benched, he left the field to go to the locker room which is like, ya know, an unforgivable sin. It's another way of saying you quit, like walking off a field in practice. He's just an emotionally driven guy, and messed up. I know some people wanted Jimbo to kick him off, even if he wanted to stay, but Leon is Leon. His passion and emotion for the game is unmatched in the locker room and his biggest growth in the last 4 seasons has been his becoming a guy who has nearly mastered his emotions and channeled them into focus and leadership.

I think he came back to the bench in that game when coaches went to get him, but that week his name was in the portal.

Sorry I don't have any inside details, but for anyone who didn't know the publicly visible side of that story, there's that. Someone correct me if I'm misremembering.

Leon has grown into one of my favorite players on this roster.

So happy for him to turn it around and that things are working out for him. He has been a great ambassador for our university and I wish him all the best. Definitely one of my favorite players

I have so much respect for this young man.

O'Neal is having a MONSTER season. He might be having one of the best years at safety since Terrance Kiel.

That said, he had a very troubling year last year. Lots of penalty problems, blown assignments. He was not a fan favorite last year, by any means.

The fact that he has turned his popularity around so much makes me like him even more. The talent was always there, IMO, he made some big plays, he just wasn't playing all that smart sometimes. His mistakes always seemed to cost us terribly. Because of that, he was considered inconsistent, and it cost him a lot of playing time. I thought he got kind of a bad rap at the time, but he always worried me when the ball was thrown in his direction.

This year, he is a complete package. Killer run defense, good downfield coverage, a nose for the football, and the plays we remember from this year are positive impact plays, not bad penalties and blown assignments. He added consistency and more football IQ to the package this year, and he's turned into a monster.

So happy for this young man, and I love rooting for him.

I love all the music he plays and I am 45 year old. Sounds like victory to me!!
