it's amazing how a great QB can make coaches look good:

Gene Chizek = Cam Newton - Heisman winner

Mack Brown = Vince Young - Heisman Finalist

Ed Orgeron = Joe Burrow Heisman winner

Larry Coker = Ken Dorsey - Heisman Finalist x 2

Les Miles = Matt Flynn - not a Heisman candidate as a 5th year senior

No coach can outcoach recruiting but a good coach can win against poorly coached/demotivated recruits a lot of times...

Essentially K Smart is right that you can't overcome talent deficit in the long run.

Your first three are spot on but the last two not so much.
Ken Dorsey was ok but not great in college. His hype and Heisman status was a product of being surrounded by some of the best college talent ever assembled. Coker inherited a great roster that was filled with high end nfl talent. He rode them to back to back titles and then his inability to recruit or coach all that well led to his dismissal.

I remember a TV game a long time ago during which Pepper Rodgers, as the color guy, commented after a long, zigzagging TD run: "That wasn't 'cause of coaching -- it was 'cause of great recruiting/"
