Ouch. As a Buckeye, I'll never forget that SEC replay official overturning the scoop-six TD that we scored against Clemson in the freaking playoff. He took 7 points from us in a game that we ultimately lost by 6.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32233941/sec-notes-multiple-officiating-mistakes-memphis-94-yard-punt-return-td-win-mississippi-state

So why wasn't this play reviewed and corrected on the spot? SEC officiating has to be the worst among the power-5 conferences.

I think this is master plan from the home office
Establish a level of incompetence during the first few weeks; If Bama needs some help to win a game Everyone will know The refs are incompetent and people won't suspect that they are corrupt

The worst calls of the day were two terrible pass interference calls that kept Bama drives alive and led to 10 Bama points in a game decided by 2.

Yes the plan is already working as intended

I wish the guy in the picture was still around. He was way better than most of the refs working games now.

Absolutely. Those clowns try to find a way for a penalty on the sips, if it is actually called, to benefit the sips. Otherwise, the simply throw a flag anytime sippy needs a hand up.

The BIGGEST ***tard in the SEC referee nut sack is John Bible, he's the twit in the replay booth. If it negatively affects the Aggies, he's all for it….if it positively affects the whorns, he's also all for it.

Without the refs, Ohio State would have lost to Minnesota in the season opener. OSU, tu, and Bama have no business complaining about officiating.

But yeah, those were bad calls.

There may be some truth in this. In the Florida game I saw some calls that should have been called against Alabama.

Who's officiating crew was it that took the winning TD away from Boise State and gave the win to okie lite?

Don't complain about Bama and the refs. You don

I don't think the Memphis TD was messed up. The Memphis player had the ball before the signal, and by rule it was still live. MSU should have played more disciplined ball.

It's irrelevant, they had two players with same number on during the play. Automatic penalty.

But what about the 2 players with the same number?

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the usual arrangement for these games between P5 teams to have the visiting team bring the on-field officials and for the replay to be done by the home team's conference (easier technically to do it that way)? If so, the screwed up down was primarily, but not entirely, on the SEC crew.

They'd have lost to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl too. Oh well.

A buckeye fan coming here to trash our refs? You're not wrong, but first things first, I'd like you to address the elephant that has been sitting in the room since your game with Minnesota.

What say you?

A buckeye fan, who has clearly acclimated to the home-cookin they get from their B1G crews to the point they no longer notice it, decides to come in here to complain about subpar officiating from other conference crews and a couple calls that weren't skewed their way??
That's some funny **** right there!

Can't wait for bama vs Texas in a few years. What will the refs ever do? Very difficult to cheat for both teams.

When the back judge blew his whistle and signaled the clock to stop, they play was over. And that happened before the Memphis player picked up the ball.

Then there is the issue with 2 #4 jersey's worn by Memphis on that play, which is an automatic penalty to begin with.

Major screw up by the officiating team on that play, and it cost Miss State the game.

Nothing is still live after an official signals the play dead.

If this is not deemed an absolute gaffe, then no play can ever be considered over and there should never again be a dead ball foul.

That was great. They should have included some clips of the refs working out their guns. They're more worried about looking fit on tv than getting a call right.

That should have been also caught in the Review Booth. If they were able to determine earlier that MSU recovered the On side Kick and levy an illegal block penalty that was not called on the field, they they could have called the penalty for two No. 4's on the field at the same time, while reviewing whether the play had been blown dead, at the least.

It's all about who has the political power within the conference. Historically, look at the sips in the SWC and the bdf. It is human nature and will always be that way.

Like yourself, Beth Mowins after about 6 replays and someone else pointing it out to her, also complained about this. I would have no problem if they had called the penalty. None. But I guarantee you that nobody noticed this the first time watching the play because it had no impact on the play. This wasn't some gimmick play where the coach snuck two guys with same number onto the field.

We have enough reviews and game stoppages. I hope that on every scoring play and turnover, we don't have to check if the player was down, the ball was secure, what yard line the ball was on, but we now we have fans that want a replay official doing jersey number checks?

This is a stupid complaint and distracts from the fact that Mike Leach's offense and special teams gave up 14 points and his team went scoreless for half the game against a team that Arkansas State hung 50 on.

Saw this on another board. Defensive player's knee is down and hand on the ball.

Had the whistle blown, you would be right, but that isn't what happened.
Also, watch the replay, the Memphis player has started running with the ball when ref starts his signal, but nobody is looking at him.

State was stupid for not picking up the ball.

It's lack of attention to detail for another Leach team against a team they were better than and should have beat.
Almost every year Leach pulls one of these out. Click on about any year on his resume, 2005 Tech team ranked #13 goes into Stillwater and loses to Ok State for the Cowboys only conference win of the season. It's a Leach thing, and it wouldn't shock me one bit of Leach beats A&M or Alabama this year and follows it up with a loss to Vanderbilt.
