Tulane like Georgia tech voluntarily left the conference. The sec needs a private school, thinking vandy should leave because they're not a good program is silly.

Can someone cite the law that says SEC is protected from open records of it has a private member? Pretty sure that's an urban legend.

Vandy is in SEC because no reason to kick them out. Though I think in 20 years SEC no longer exists and there's a "super group" of the top 30-40 or so schools.

Vandy isn't good in football. They have a recent national championship in baseball and put out some very good basketball teams.

No reason to boot them.

Fun Fact: Vanderbilt and Texas have played 12 times. Vanderbilt has won 8, Texas 3 and they've tied once.

Perhaps the SEC powers that be are keeping Vanderbilt so they can smack Texas around.

Northwestern: has won its conference within the last 30 years, and has competed for divisional titles within the last ten.

Stanford: likewise.

Duke: ACC is a special case b/c it's a basketball conference and no way in hell do you lose Duke.

Big Dumpster Fire: Baylor and TCU have been competitive in the last ten years. This may be more a commentary on the conference than on those schools, however.

Vandy has not been competitive in football since James Franklin left (Derek Mason lost both his bowl games), and hasn't competed for a conference title in the modern era (post-1970).

"There is no way you can be Harvard Monday through Friday and try to be Alabama on Saturday." --Art Guepe, 1953-62, most SEC wins of any Vandy coach.

What's the problem with having a few crappy schools in the conference? Bragging about how tough the conference is great till you have to play all the damn heavyweights.
