Remember 1960's and 1970's College Football ??
I sure do
The SWC, the SEC, The Big 10, The Big 8, and The PAC 8 Oh yeah, and Norte Dame. 4-5 New Years Day Bowls, not 33 meaningless TV events disguised as football games
Everything was regionalized. It was a BIG deal to win your Conference and go to a New Years Day Bowl
The Natty was voted on by sportswriters and it was great if you were in that mix, but the Cotton Bowl, The Sugar Bowl, the Rose Bowl and the Orange Bowl all meant SOMETHING
Then along came ESPN and the BCS/4 team Playoffs and all of a sudden, you HAD to be one of only 4 teams in the hunt for the Natty or you NEVER got featured on the Mouse network end of season Ad BlitzThey became recruiting Kingmakers
It is my guess that with a 12 team or 16 team playoff, along with SuperConferences, things will revert back to a more regional feel
"Making The Playoffs" will be the measure of your team, giving it a regional feel The top 3 or 4 teams from each of the Power 4 Conferences New Year's Day Bowls, back to the future
I, for one see it as a positive
