Just when it appears that the Southeastern Conference's expansion of Texas and Oklahoma can't go any faster, new information is shared that suggests the movement to get the Longhorns and Sooners to the SEC is in hyperspeed. According to SDS's Matt Hayes, at least one of Matt's SEC sources has indicated that "the expectation" is for both programs to play in the league beginning with the 2022 college football season.

Pretty obvious that buying out their Big 12 obligations and having them as full members by next June/July was the endgame...I personally hate this, especially if it screws up any of our rivalries...Truly hate it for you guys too, I know it must suck to feel like you've been hoodwinked.

It does suck what has happened. But with Sully, NIL, and now this, we can only hope that college football burns to the ground.

this might explain why the SEC network already had the pods listed, er, projected last week Wednesday

I had no doubt that would be their objective. Based on how everybody seems set on making them happy it will probably happen, too

Will be a mess with schedules, but I suppose it's possible.

So much info in that paragraph of an article. Are we keeping tabs on which sports bloggers/"journalists" have been wrong as of this point. The announcement sipsooner was leaving was happening today was the report. Didn't happen, unless you want to mean sometime before 2025...

That belief is probably based in the assumption that 2 more teams will abandon the BDF ship before then, so that the league dissolves.

Best case scenario, the orphans say "Apes Strong Together" and make a suicide pact where they will delay leaving until 2025 if every member has not found a new home.

This means they begin recruiting the whole SE part of the US informing the recruits...."Come be the 1st SEC class at the University of Texas. Same for OU.

get the popcorn..

Yes sir, this is good thing for us.

So they want to break their B12 agreement by not giving 2 seasons notice of withdraw? The other eight can get the same $75 mil from each team by keeping them in the conference for two years, per the agreed upon bylaws, and not paying the teams their cut of revenue for the two years. This is what we are bringing into the SEC - an attitude that the rules don't apply to them. Danger.

I don't get that thinking. If the SEC wanted us, Missouri, ou and tu 10 years ago then we would have been just as happy to join. OU and tu are both top 10 revenue programs, and probably the only free agents in the foreseeable future.

I think Okie State, Tech, etc. start to look out for themselves and the league simply folds.

You know Kansas, West Va., Tech and Okie Lite are all burning up the phone lines to other conferences. Kansas has a halfway decent shot at joining the B1G because of basketball and their AAU status. West Va. is as attractive as any free agent on the East Coast. Tech and OSU bring nothing, but some conference might be desperate enough to offer. If any one of those dominoes falls, the Big 12 shatters like a glass cannonball.

You haven't studied your history. OU wanted in with A&M, but couldn't leave the Big 12 without OSU, and the SEC was clear the Sooners were welcome, but Okie Lite wasn't. t.u. screamed loudly that the SEC was beneath them because something something academics. Mizzou served notice they were leaving for the B1G where their "true" rivals were, but when said invite didn't come, the SEC threw them a lifeline. A lot of things happened over the past decade to enable the current shenanigans unfolding.

[Edit] Ah, I misunderstood your post. Yes, we'd have joined the SEC even if t.u. tagged along. We'd have called it a victory over the siren song of the Left Coast and gloated in DeLoss Dodd's face.

Actually we wanted them to come with us 10 years ago.
