We've been talking for several days how NIL will change college football forever. A few days later we find out that the SEC has been in talks with tu & OU for months. It seems dumbfounding to us that a stable conference like the SEC would take the risk of inviting the likes of tu & OU.

I think the fact is they know what's coming and are taking quick and decisive steps to make it happen. College football will have a top league of ~30 teams within a few years.

What made college football so great was that it wasn't pro football. I'll still root for us, but I don't have any desire to pay for a ticket to watch a semi-pro team. I'd go to a Texans game if I wanted that.

Not saying any of us should like it, but that's what's happening.

Yes, this is not college football anymore. It is semi-pro farm teams for NFL where players will earn millions. Getting a diploma in general studies is not a big deal for most of those dudes.

Maybe it is a massive step toward the top 60 or so so universities separating from the NCAA for football, at least.

It's sure as hell not the college football I grew up with and loved...... I'm not sticking my head in the sand and pretending there wasn't a lot of funny business going on back then, but at least there was a significant fraction of players actually going to (X) University because they actually enjoyed the atmosphere and that place MEANT something to them.

That pretense is now a joke.

Been saying it for years. The NFL needs to form a minor league so they can draft blue chips out of HS. Players that need more time to develop or actually want a degree can play college ball.

The NFL will never invest the money as long as college programs pay for it, and the big time donors. NFL gets a free ride. It is a non-profit you know.

Is it weird that I'm kind of indifferent about it becoming minor league football? As long as the team represents A&M I'll support them, whether it's a developmental league or purely academic.

Sadly, the writing has been on the wall for years. College football as we once knew it is essentially over. It has been for a while now, but these new developments should be the final nail in the coffin. There are really only a couple dozen teams that ever have a chance of winning on a national level, and a bunch of other schools that probably shouldn't even bother fielding a team. Paying players and mega-conferences is a game changer. Fortunately, I guess, TAMU is on the right side of this, but it's about to be "game over" for a lot of the mid majors. It sucks, but the sport got too big and basically ate itself I think.

There's only one form of sports entertainment that you can count on night in and night out.
Something that doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is.
