How do we differentiate ourselves in recruiting?

Being the lone Texas school in the SEC had an obvious positive impact on the trajectory of our program while simultaneously having a negative impact on Texas as more and more recruits desired to play in the SEC.

There are some posters who think nothing, with regards to recruiting, is going to change. That we will continue to recruit as we have been since joining the SEC even with the seismic event of Texas and OU joining the SEC. I disagree. History suggests otherwise.

As another poster has stated,

Quote:

Like it or not, both of those programs have advantages over us. OU has historical relevancy in football, even recently they have been in the playoffs. tu, as much as it sucks to say, has the media love that we have never had and likely never will.

Maybe the answer is Jimbo Fisher. Our most successful period in history began with Jackie Sherrill. But, other than that brief period from the mid 80's to mid 90's history has shown when we are in the same conference with Texas they get the majority of the blue chip recruits.

Our being in the SEC gave recruits another option and Texas's history and brand in attracting recruits became increasingly irrelevant as more and more kids wanted to compete in the SEC. And the results between our two schools have been obvious.

So what now? How do we differentiate ourselves in recruiting?

We beat their ass and leave Horn alone, they self implode and **** up on their own. No need to bother with them

Once they see Texas become a 4 loss team every year, there will be no problem.

I'm not worried. As long as we make good decisions about coaching hires, we will be fine. Since the 70s, Texas really only dominated us during the Fran years. Yes, if we make another Fran like hire, we will suck. That isn't because of Texas though.

All A&M can sell, generally, is NFL output, facilities, and recent success.

A&M will probably lose several blue chip targets to OU and tu due to the fact there are more local SEC options now, but A&M can still sell the SEC brand to recruits outside the SEC footprint

Money. Bagmen need to step up or we will fall behind quickly.

Another top 5 finish this year. Building on success is the best way to keep tu down.

This is my biggest concern ... losing a huge selling point we have over both programs. I also am concerned about NIL and how well we can compete there. Yes, we a re a wealthy school ... but A&M sits in a more rural small market area. College sports is still pretty regional with the vast majority of players being know more by the fans in the area than by college fans across the area. Texas has a much larger media territory in the I-35 corridor from San Marcos to Georgetown (and could include San Antonio as well) than we do in the Brazos valley. They have a much larger population base and business community to market to. Oklahoma, while in more of a small town is a suburb of Oklahoma City and OU dominates the state as a whole with little pro sport competition up there.

While we may press into Houston for NIL deals Houston is a pro sports town with pro players being available to be used in marketing and these pro players will have a much higher profile in the community.

Could marker size be a newer version of TV markets in the new age of college football?

At this point there are so many questions in recruiting because of NIL. I think our recruiting with tu and OU in the SEC will be different than it was when we were all in he Big 12, because we've already expanded to a national base. We are in excellent position to win big on the field this year and we need to take advantage of that.

SEC recruits nationally, so my hope is that it isn't like before where all three schools are pulling Texas talent, hopefully all three pull nationally, and there is enough to go around...

It's interesting that someone brought up facilities. I truly believe that facilities improvements are going to go away quick with this NIL stuff. Why would I care if I have a TV in my locker if the other university is offering me $$$ in NIL deals?

There is no such thing as cheating anymore with NIL. Just pay the players above the board in plain sight. It's the Wild West now and everyone is still defining the new world we find ourselves in.

Win.

Remember, this isn't the old SWT BIGXII days. Texas can try using Austin as a recruiting tool (which it always does), but no other teams in the SEC have that, and they recruit just fine. Just win.

(and Jimbo just had a whole lot more pressure put on him).

Today's winner for the General Board Burrito Lottery is:

The sips always find a way to bend the rules in their favor. Guaranteed.

By spanking dat ass. We got complacent and let them back up, but in the early 90s we took most of the guys we wanted first, and they got our scraps. That said, they had a string of bad coaching hires and we hired Jackie and then RC which were both good hires. They aren't magical, they are like everyone else; when they make good hires they are good, when they don't they suck.

One of the cleaner large programs according to NCAA violations history. <shrugs> I know you can discount that.

The point is that NIL changes everything. You can pay players and legally so. Just look at the bomb Nick Saban threw out with that comment about Bryce Young having almost a cool million in deals.

We've been saying that for a long time.

Since joining the SEC we have had a better record than Texas 7 out of 9 years. We had a similar record (8-5 and 7-6) the other two years.

In the past 32 seasons we have had a better record than Texas 11 times with 9 of the 11 coming from the Sherrill/early RC era. Jackie Sherrill brought significant change. We dominated from '85 through '94. The sips didn't like that did they? Jackie resigned and RC maintained for the next 6 years or so before everything began to fall apart.

From '95 through 2011 we had two seasons where we had better records than the sips. And then we joined the SEC.

Well, I guess 10 years of being bested by the Ags is all the sips can stand.
