AP: Neither the B1G nor ACC were looking at deal with sooners nor sips

Nothing happens in the B1G without Barry Alvarez knowing about it.

Quote:

Alvarez, 74, is not one to shy away from giving his thoughts on a topic. But news of realignment ramping up again caught him off guard.

"It's something you certainly have your antenna up for," Alvarez said.
Neither did the B1G Commish, it sounds like. At 14 teams, room for two more to get to 16. Notre Dame will never join the B1G. They will go ACC. Does this sound like a guy salivating over bringing the B1G Network to the Texas/Oklahoma market?
Quote:

Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren was asked about the news and whether it could prompt the conference to look at expansion - maybe even reaching out to the two Big 12 schools - as he opened football media days at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Warren stayed away from speculating, calling the news just another example of the volatility sweeping through college sports.

"That's the world that we live in right now," he said. "From where we sit, we're always constantly evaluating what's in the best interest of the conference."
ACC? Doesn't sound like they were looking to expand either. If 16 teams is the magic number, they already have ND sitting there so only room for one more, not two.

Quote:

Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner Jim Phillips, who took over earlier this year after being athletic director at Northwestern, took a similarly cautious approach.

"I think it's critically important for all of us to always be paying attention to what's happening in the landscape and understanding what's happening across the country, whether you're a conference commissioner, whether you're an athletic director, whether you're a president," he said. "It's just part of all of our responsibility. And this is the latest maybe conversation that we're hearing about."

Those are the words of people reacting to the news. If they were reaching out to either school they wouldn't be so surprised.

I'm curious if we've considered big10 or ACC contingency plans

Yes Sec has been great yada yada, but if we really believe sip is as toxic as we say they are we need to be looking at relocation options now. Don't wait until big10 & ACC both have 16

& yea I realize this idea is crazy & hopefully we never have to act on it, but sitting idle while *sankey is dry humping sipy's leg ain't all that bright either

ACC isn't going to admit they were talking to OU/tu if they got beat out by the SEC.

Article on ESPN said that many of the AD's believed the ACC would add OU-Texas at some point, but were caught off guard by the speed at which conference expansion arrived.

Quote:

Several ACC athletic directors believed that their league would make a push in the next few years to add both Texas and Oklahoma -- along with Notre Dame, which already is a partial ACC member -- as it looks to restructure its TV contract, but the suddenness of the Longhorns' and Sooners' move to the SEC took them by surprise.

So that proves they were not actively pursuing them. Sometime in the next few years is not the same as in current negotiations.

So ACC has been told they are on the clock if they were ever really interested.

A&M is not going anywhere. A&M will take the extra money and will fight to win in the best college football conference, just like we have been doing. With players getting paid ... legally, the SEC is just going pro. Should change the name to the NFL Prep Conference.

Trust.

Not so sharp.

Much of the old guard has a codependent relationship with the sips.

A&M and ND to ACC!

Force SEC to add another school like Tech or Baylor.
No. There's no pathway to the SEC not being the premiere conference in the country and bailing on that would be a dumb move.

The ACC is run by the basketball programs that like the status quo. The money would have to drastically dry up before they would consider bringing in 2 football heavyweights and tipping the scales of power. tu would become the first among equals in that scenario. UNC's leadership is too clever to allow it unless desperate.

PAC wasn't talking to them either.
