1. I have been, and remain, vehemently against sip and wagon joining the SEC.

2. I also do not allow myself to get worked up over things I do not control, and last time I looked, I am not a university president in the SEC with a vote in this matter.

3. The only way our SEC brethren would want sip and wagon in is if it increases the money we make. And last time I looked, money is good.

4. This would be a very humbling act for sip and wagon - admitting they were wrong about conference realignment all along and entering into agreement with 6 or 7 other athletic programs that are their equal or superior.

5. We have a decade long head start on competing in this conference. Our program is one of the strongest in the country with one of the best head coaches in the country. We recruit as well as anyone and will continue to do so.

6. If this causes a conference realignment that gets us away from playing Bama every year, I'd like that.

Just because your ****ty first husband is loaded doesn't mean its worth getting back together again. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I've cogitated about this as well. All I can come up with is **** the sips.

I don't think it humbles anything. I think if this goes through sip will be just as entitled as ever & Ou will continue to be their annoying Ed McMahon type sidekick

It's amazing to me that other member institutions aren't saying "wtf are you thinking?"

This is a terrible decision, but so is nil, playoff expansion, the stupid covid schedules, etc

College football is determined to go down the crapper

I expect I'll start watching a lot more high school ball in the coming years

wbt, good post!

1. I respect this view. I'm against Texas joining but think OU is a good fit.

2. I think you know I don't get worked up over these things either.

3. The decision will be based on a few other factors. One of which is that OU/Texas are shopping as a pair and they will go somewhere. I think the SEC would rather have them than let them go elsewhere. Can you imagine them in the ACC with Notre Dame? Despite the angst, these programs and brands are valuable. The weight of each program attribute will be each university's to determine.

4. I disagree with you on this. It's believe it's all about timing. There was nothing right or wrong about 2011 for the Horns. I do think it was very positive for A&M and have always said their "fit" in the SEC is a great situation.

5. A&M is in a great position (football-wise). Basketball needs serious help and baseball is starting anew next season.

6. Understandable.

Sounds like this will be over soon - possibly before the start of the season.

Again, good post.

I also don't see this as a humbling experience. To me, it looks more like "what I want, I get."

It's kind of like that bad tenant every landlord gets that completely trashes the house and then picks up and moves on to the next one once the living conditions have deterioriated. Then they do it again.

Your number 3 is null and void.

No amount of money is worth getting back in bed with sip. Period. End of story.

I would agree #4 is controversial.

Having said that - we Aggies too often think of Texas as frozen in time from 2010 and DeLoss Dodds running their program. It is 2021 and Chris Del Conte now runs that program.

And I have a hard time imagining Greg Byrne, Scott Stricklin or Scott Woodward being impressed by Texas trying to coerce the room. There are 6 or 7 programs in that room in the same displacement class as Texas - a far cry from what they had in the SWC of Big 12.

If they are willing to join this group, they will be accepting that they are in a room with their equals.

Good post. I don't think the typical Longhorn or Ag thinks of themselves as equals.

I do but people like you and me are atypical.

A lot of y'all seem to be forgetting this is likely a 100+ decision. We may be "OK" in football now, but just look 5, 10, 15 years into the future. tu will poison this conference just like they did with the previous 2. It's going to happen; just a matter of time. Once our recruiting advantage is taken away, it's back to being the old ways of struggling to out recruit them and OU in this state.

I agree that it's not humbling at all. It's more like "I get want I want when I want it" from a Texas point of view. Second, Texas has no equals - certainly not the likes of Miss State, LSU and South Carolina. Oklahoma, Florida and a couple of others? Maybe.

'sips are poison... period. There is no hiding their history of programmatic narcissism. It's like your psycho ex that you finally dumped, and now one of your friends wants to go out with them -- completely and moronically blinded by their past deeds. Let a snake in your house, and you will get bit.

Love cheerleaders in skirts, but I'm not gonna wear a skirt.

Now imagine a cheerleader without a skirt you are wearing.

We need to cogitate harder.

Agree. They were real classy when Arkansas left the SWC for the SEC.

tu and Mobilhoma wouldn't do anything to us if they went to the ACC other than increase likelihood of a Clemson loss or Notre dame loss that would increase number of SEC teams in the playoff. Also with conference champs getting auto bid putting them all behind one conference would be better than in our conference. Would also dissolve little 8 remaining and would remove another automatic bid making even more room in the playoffs for SEC. That's where the money and stronghold is at for the members of the sec.

OP- I had blue started your post until I read the last point. I like playing Bama; it makes us better. I'd rather be in a league where we got to play bama annually than a league that included the sips.

Been thinking the same thing. Here's my take.

1. On net texas joining is a net negative for A&M.

2. texas joining doesn't damn recruiting, but it hurts it. The pitch that you can play in the SEC in Texas is now shared. The old issues of Austin vs. CS will rearise, and so will the US news rankings. My jam is BCS more than Austin, but this puts me in the minority. US news methodology is a very crass way to view the world and not how I would make decisions, but this puts me in the minority too. That A&M has elected to pursue an identity of (1) football and (2) mass engineering education means that this has broader welfare repercussions.

3. It is difficult to read Loftin's book or watch his ted talk and not be disgusted by the mean-spirited nature texas (and baylor) displayed. I sympathize with those who just want to tell texas to pound sand.

4. If texas losing to kansas (2016), kansas st. (2016), tcu (2016-17, 2019-20), baylor (2019), iowa state (2019-20), and maryland (2017-18) isn't humbling, then losing to bama won't be, either. There is a different culture in Austin broadly, and this extends through the university. The present-day issues the nation is working through, about competing conceptions of the good, can largely be identified in the Austin vs. CS dichotomy. I do think these issues would be live going forward, though maybe it is significant the narrative is texas/ou reaching out to the SEC rather than the other way around. If this is the nature of the "texas has ruined two conferences and will ruin another" then I'm sympathetic to it, though I don't see exactly how that works; otherwise that argument carries no currency with me.

5. It's not obvious to me texas will be successful in the SEC. A decade in the bdf is a long time, and we see what happens when OU gets in the playoffs (0-4, losing by an average of 18 pts). A&M was expected to be middling, and absent Manziel and those knock-on effects (e.g., facilities, jimbo) that might have come to pass. Might texas struggle to the same tune as missouri or even arkansas?

6. A&M and texas are rivals, and will likely always be, largely a consequence of geography and the competing claims for allegiances that high schoolers work through.

Letting the sips in is not a positive for A&M. But it probably is for the SEC.

I agree with much of this, but I would rather play Bama every year and go 2-8 against them for 10 years than play cow every year and be 10-0. We joined the SEC to play SEC teams, the best SEC teams, not cow.

It will take about 30 minutes after joining for the other schools in the SEC say, "Accepting texas into the SEC was a really bad idea!"
