Sure sounds like they're trying to strong-arm fox sports for a better contract. Will the little 8 offer them guaranteed money like last time?

It's ironic because Fox told them they'd wait to renew the contract until later this year or next year already after both schools asked about it

They're strong arming FSN to renew now rather than next year or so, because they won't get more money if they wait

OU and tu to SEC is a done deal if they are going public with plans to forego renewal. Sucks but it is going to happen.

No... no it's not. This is far from a fore gone conclusion.

The entire A&M leadership ought to be fired on the spot if this happens, it is entirely against the preservation of the university and outright negligent. Which is why I think your wrong. We're not adding either school if the added value is just a few million. We stand to lose so much more value in exposure if we let them in.

Now that is funny. The amount of donations ATM would see go away would dwarf the apparent additional TV money and I still don't see how TV money goes up nearly 100 million a year at a time with so much uncertainty in college football and cable companies dropping sports channels because of cost and consumers not switching providers

You think tu and OU would never manipulate media releases or put in a soft bid to change conferences in order to get a bigger media contract or demand more share of the big12 pie?

where have u been? tu has done this before.

tu and OU rule their conference. Both are too stuck on themselves to give that up.

OU would be mid tier SEC at best and tu would be bottom of the barrel as big of a dumpster fire as their football program is.

It's a done deal. Just like Saban and Urban to tu we're done deals. Just like the Big 12 South (minus Baylor plus Colorado) to the PAC was a done deal.

A couple of things.

1. This is a business. It is ALL about the money.
2. The Longhorns and OU current media rights are about 35 million per school right now. If you double that (incredible increase) that's 140 million. Divided 14 ways, that's 20 million per school.
3. I don't think they will get close to double what they are now. Even if they do, I don't think 20 million per school is enough to get the votes given their history.
4. There is a number that will buy our vote. You're right. But I don't think that number is 20 million a year. And I don't think it would be for other schools either. 40 million? Maybe. But that's not happening.

The numbers don't add up man. You're just wrong.

140 Million divided by 14 schools is 10 Mill per school chief.

Math before Coffee is not good. Thanks. Yes. Even less. There is no way we will let those schools in for a measly 10 million dollars. It's not gonna happen.

The SEC needs to pay attention to how tu and OU are treating their conference right now and ask why they will be any different with us.

ESPN wants it gone and why they're open to renewing the SEC tv contract. They're a major factor in the push.

They are the only reason those two ****bags get in but fox is flush with cash. Do they overpay for big12 to keep it a viable p5 conference they have some control of? If not ESPN outright owns sec/acc and a good chunk of big10. No more big12 and pac12 isnt't enough. If fox lets them leave, they might as well get out of college football.

We will see who blinks first.

No matter how the other schools 'feel' bad for us, you do not turn down that kind of revenue and if we can get Alabama out of our division, that's a win for us.

What kind of revenue? Some quick math above showed that by the wildest, most liberal assumptions, it may be a $10 MM bump, but very likely close to $5 MM. Is that sufficient? I don't think so.

I work in Strategy for a large TV/Internet provider. We had to drop the Fox RSNs because Sinclair (which owns the Fox RSNs) was asking for outrageous price increases. In fact, lots of TV providers are dropping Sinclair.

That being said, I'd be shocked if TX/OU were threatening to leave the Big 12 just to negotiate with Sinclair. Keep in mind, FSSW is only 1 piece of the Fox RSNs, so TX/OU wouldn't have that much clout. Plus Sinclair would have to pass along the higher cost to the TV providers, which are already fed up with Sinclair.

This feels much more than a TV negotiation tactic... this feels real.

Though it would be pretty hysterical if the SEC said no, and they had to go crawling back to Fox and came out with a worse tv deal.
