The best teams should play the best teams as often as possible and the current state of most power 5 teams non-conference schedule is a joke especially the Aggies this season! If power 5 teams were restricted to only playing 1 group of 5 team and 0 FCS teams during non-conference play, college football would not be talking about playoff expansion. During the 2019 season Alabama absolutely demoralized Western Carolina in the middle of November! ( I had never even heard of Western Carolina) Nothing about that game was entertaining and nothing about that game grew the sport of college football. Do not bring the argument to this post stating, "but the small schools need to play the big schools to fund their athletic departments." My plan would allow power 5 teams to schedule 1 group of 5 team at the beginning of the season, and this is college football not socialism the best should play the best!

Because the small schools need to play the big schools to fund their athletic departments. And because they're a system school. And because we play in the SEC West.

We pay our head coach $7.5M per year. How do we do that? Home games. We need to play 7 home games. If we were to play only FBS teams, we would either have to up the payout to G5 teams or play home and home with a G5 team.

College sports is a business.

It's just another in a long line of examples of how Texas A&M carries forward the traditions of Lawrence Sullivan Ross in his tireless fight to create and support HBCUs in Texas, regardless of those who would denigrate those efforts.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the case...Well, he is paid 7.5...There's really zero justification for playing PVU, you can excuse around it all you want...

Big 12 play Kansas, Tech, Baylor, TCU every year. We probably should play more FCS schools to even out the competition.

And they always act like this is the first time it's happened or that we are the only team that does it.

Setting aside the economics of paycheck/cupcake games being a boon for the sport as a whole; funding smaller athletics programs which in turn generates scholarships and helps promote HS athletics, yada yada yada

We are in the SEC. Specifically, we are in the SEC West, AKA the strongest division in the sport. Some schools need to consider strength of schedule arguments; we are not one of those schools.

Additionally, these games help keep players fresh and reduce injuries late in the season. I think a lot of people underestimate or just don't realize how much of a physical toll a high level schedule takes on players.

Finally, it's one of the best matchup of Bands in college football. I'd buy a ticket just to sit and watch halftime.

Since we joined the SEC in 2012, this is the 3rd time our final home game is against either a Group of 5 or FCS team.

2015: FCS Western Carolina
2017: Mountain West New Mexico
2021: FCS Prairie View

I understand that we play two Group of 5 teams and one FCS team every year to help these small schools fund their athletic departments. During Week 12, 6 of the 14 SEC teams are playing a cupcake game to keep their players fresh and reduce injuries before rivalry week, but there will be 4 SEC games that week. A final home game should always be a conference game.

PVU will plat at A&M without us making a return trip to their stadium, thus giving us an extra home game. We do that every year for that exact same reason. Name a school "bigger" than PVU that will aggree to that.

7 home games is very important.

getting former students back to campus as much as possible is critical for fundraising (in all areas of the university)

You do realize that PVAMU, the second oldest public post-secondary institution in TEXAS (older than t.u.), is within TAMUS just like TAMU?

By the way, this is their home stadium:

Yes. My alma mater needs that money. Who better than to give it to tan another system school while racking up a practice win.

So:

1. One doesn't affect us and allows a home game.
2. PVAMU is NOT just any other Texas A&M System school. Not only is it a second Morrill Act land grant, it was authorized as a separate school but part of our school. It and Texas A&M are THE two land grant universities in Texas.
3. Our leadership has been wise in supporting them as a distinct institution as part of our system and I won't repeat the good parts of that history. But members of our own current and former student bodies have failed to recognize the significance of the unique institution that is Prairie Vire A&M University while promoting the College Station institution as if the two could be severed and separated. To be clear: it takes a change of statutory code to do that and at this point such a change would have severe consequences.
4. As to football schedules: when it becomes necessary to make major changes to our schedules, it will be announced in advance and take time to do.

The entire premise of your post smells like trolling to me. You know why things are this way. So why would someone who is a fan of our school expect a rash, poorly coordinated change? What do imagine is the benefit of doing so? What is your real point?

So, which school does OP want to add to the already scheduled schools: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado*, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, and South Carolina?

* not really much of a threat, but at least this is a big name from the now-distant past.

In the sport of boxing you will never see a heavyweight vs a lightweight for these reasons:

1. It's not safe
2. Few people would watch because the heavy weight is going to win
3. Its not entertaining for those that do watch

College Football should have the same standard!
I do love college football and for that reason I want to see great games played every Saturday! I have nothing against Prairie View A&M I only singled them out because they are an FCS team.

1. It is safe, as both TAMU and PVAMU are Division I football institutions...and the money stays within TAMUS.

2. Many would be there as well as watching it on TV, as it is a matchup of the state's two oldest public land-grant post-secondary institutions (again, they are both older than t.u.) who both are core TAMUS members.

3. Not entertaining? You are obviously not familiar with the TAMUS' version of Battle of the Bands (Fightin' Texas Aggie Band vs Marching Storm), which always end in a tie!
