RV Tailgating advice?

I apologize if this has been asked and addressed elsewhere but I was hoping someone could help me with advice for a first time RV tailgater.

We have 2 little ones (a 2 yr old and 4 yr old) with a 3rd on the way (due at the end of the month). So we are definitely looking for a family friendly atmosphere and hopefully one where there are other young kids. Also, it would be nice if things somewhat die down by 9:00ish.

We have a 21' travel trailer with full amenities that can be powered by a quiet 1850/2500 watt generator.

Which one of the lots should I be trying to get tickets for?
Do any of y'all have similar situations?
Would an afternoon or evening game be better?

We are thinking about bringing an adult niece so that between the 3 of us, we can rotate someone staying behind and watching the kids while the other two watch the game at Kyle field. This might be easier for a night game because the kids would be asleep and it would be cooler (so whoever hangs back can follow along on the tv).

Are we just crazy to even be considering this with a 4-6 month old infant?

Are you tailgating for a football game or a school play?

Just kidding, kinda.

I can only give my experience at Olsen, assuming something is available for you. If there is, I'd recommend a space backing up to George Bush Drive. The tailgates backing up to the railroad tracks might be a little too awesome for your family.

And as a parent, I dunno about the 4-6 month old. Other than to say family is the most important thing, tailgating comes in second, albeit a close second.

We did it with those ages.

Aggie lot out by Bush Library if available. Its run through the TAMU parking / transportation org. Go to their site for dates/availability.

With the loud hum of all the quiet generators going I had no issues with noise at night while babies were trying to sleep.

Just get an extra range baby monitor.

Did it with my kids when they were young, you're not crazy. They would come to low key non conference games, or 11 AM SEC games, no night SEC games yet.

Pretty sure if you're not on any waiting lists the Aggie RV Park by George Bush is going to be your only option. You could also look at the Equine Park which is super nice. Other options are to go through the RV exchange on the website.

Thanks for the tips.

Did y'all attend the game or just go for the tailgating?

If you went to the game, did you put ear muffs on the kids and just let them sleep in your arms?

To be clear, you don't think an SEC night game is a good idea?

Thanks for the kids and I have a lot of the same questions for you:

Ideal time for the game (11:00, 2:30, night) and why?
Worst time for the game and why?

Go to the game or tailgate only?

Bring the kids to the game or take turns leaving someone behind to watch them?

As odd as it looks, you probably should discuss noise protection gear if football (with your pediatrician.)

You know your child and their schedule/temperament better than anyone so only you can answer some of those questions. (Even more important you know your wife and her schedule/temperament better than anyone and that's who you really have to keep happy......)

There's so many ways to handle games with kids, it really comes down to what you and they are comfortable with. For me it was always easier to do the powderpuff non conference games with children. Tickets and everything are cheaper. It's not as loud/rowdy, they're not as packed in the stands, getting in and out of the stadium is so much easier and they intensity just isn't there, so it's just much easier to manage. When they were infants they'd basically fall asleep and from ages 2-5 they were spent by halftime and wanted to leave after the band anyway.

You go to a big time conference game (especially at night) and you're dealing with a lot more people, a lot more noise, a crowd where many of the people have been drinking all day and it's a lot more intense. I've always tried to think about the people around me too and be considerate of their experience, but people are going to get rowdy at a SEC night game, not a place where I want to be holding my infant or trying to herd my kids around.

There were a lot of times where my wife would stay with the kids at the RV or we would hire a babysitter for the day to stay with them while we went to the game. Good luck, but if I'm looking at this year's schedule I'd be fine with kids at: Kent St, New Mexico and Prairie View. Miss St and South Carolina would be a big maybe depending on game time. Auburn and Bama - Hell no.

I would not recommend Aggie RV lot with little kids. It's not paved. If you are bringing any riding toys then they will struggle.

I would shoot for Olsen/ Penberthy/ Lot 58.

As said above, as far as game time, it really does depend on your kids temperament and how long you plan on staying for the game. How late will they stay up? Are you good with them sleeping the whole second half? How good are you at protecting them from the sun?

Are kids are teens now so back when they were little the bag policy was different. We took a backpack full of coloring books etc. to keep them occupied.

In the end, it's just like the rest of parenting, you will be making some sacrifices, but that's what it takes to raise them right!

Good luck!

Mainly only tailgated. We started bringing the kids in around 3 depending on weather, timing, and ticket price. She brings just regular headphones for noise and will sometimes watch a show on her tablet now that she is 5.

I just don't ever want her to be forced to stay there and to start not liking going.

Location:
  • You're probably not getting into any of the full hookup lots like Olsen/ Penberthy/ Lot 58.
  • The 12thMan Lots (R/74- no hookups & Equestrian- full hookups) were selected/renewed already based on priority points.
  • Not sure about the RV Park out by Bush Library, but may be your best bet.
  • As noted, the Football RV Exchange via transportation is something to keep checking or occasionally someone will put their spot on the ticket exchange forum.
  • Your odds are better for one of the pre-conference games, especially if its a 11am kick off.

We started bringing our oldest grandson when he was 7 months. He's 4 now. Depending on the game, DIL, my wife or I would stay and watch the game on TV while the kids used the tickets. As he got older we would take him in knowing the resident time was probably 1 half, so we planned accordingly. We're in the Zone Club so he could also roam around since there usually isn't a ton of people actually in the club during the game. ,We still had the noise/earmuffs in for him when we were in the seats..

Aggie rv lot sucks. Way too far out there. You get zero tailgate vibe.
