They do "mail shuffle' in our neighborhood, everyone gets a bit of their neighbors' mail just to make it interesting.

Maybe they wanted to be able to say they invited you but sent it late you wouldn't come. It was a favorite tactic of my mother growing up when she had people she had to invite to things she doesn't want them to come to.
