Jhonny what? Mexican Food?
Back on the old 80's we tired of Los Nortenos in Bryan and wen't searching for real Mexican food. A contest of sorts. Broke up in groups and made it a contest for real Mexican food. Two guys came back after a few weeks and said "winner".
We followed them deep into Bryan, down residential roads, down a dirt driveway in a bad neighborhood. Place had a big back yard, and a barn built off the back of it. Nobody spoke English or any variant of it. Add on barn had about 8 tables in it, with the menu on the board in chalk ( this was the eighties and evidently a trendsetter in hindsight with the menu with chalk). All in Spanish. Being in the 80s, we "no comprende" the menu and the older Mexican women knew it. Since they spoke no English and we did not know the menu, they brought out samples free of charge and we went from there, ordering lots of food, growing by larger groups by the week. Holy heck it was GOOD. REAL GOOD. For weeks the old Mexican women liked us coming. And they were having a good time with it, until one day we stayed drinking a few beers ( it was BYOB) until about 4PM. Then they got all panicky about getting us out because the real life Danny Trejo's came at 5:00pm and they did not want trouble. A few White guys eating some of the best Mexican food they'd ever had and drinking a beer vs. a bunch of real life, mad, Danny Trejos was not a scene they wanted on their hands. We went back a few times after that, but the women communicated to us that we'd been "noticed" and eventually it would not work out for anyone. The last visit was food and hugs. That food was the best Mexican Food I've ever had. Back roads eateries in Cabo got close, but not quite.
