My son is planning to attend A&M this fall to study computer science. We're visiting this weekend. Any thoughts on where we should go for food/fun? I know about the Chicken, but would love y'all's thoughts on other spots.

thanks in advance.

There are a bunch of good restaurants in the shopping center between Texas and College on University now.

Century Square has quite a few restaurants and shops. They oftentimes have live music going on the green area as well.

One could spend hours just walking around campus admiring the beautiful Soviet Bloc architecture.

Or just go eat fried chicken and have a beer at numerous great options a few minutes from Campus.

Century Square has a lot of options. If your students wants a real college kid meal, take him to Laynes. If y'all want a little fancier place, go to Napa Flats. Somewhere right off of campus is Good Bull BBQ. I'd say stick somewhere close to campus since that's where 95% of his time in College Station will be.

Also, congrats on raising an Aggie. You should be immensely proud.

Downtown Bryan is pretty cool. Much different than it was in the early 1990s. Good luck OP!

Fuego's is a good option too.

DoubleDave's Pizzaworks for some Peproni Rolls!
DD started in CS in 1984, on Southgate (current location of Good Bull BBQ-another solid joint...I suggest the Yell Boy Tacos). We are Aggie owned and operated.
Current campus location is at the corner of G. Bush and Texas.
Congratulations and safe travels!
DoubleDave's Pizzaworks has been serving your handcrafted favorites in the Brazos Valley since 1984 for dine-in, carryout or delivery. Visit us at www.doubledaves.com for store info or to order online!

Go visit Downtown Hearne 1st and then venture to downtown Bryan which is pretty cool. End up at Northgate and campus. After visiting the armpit of Texas you'll appreciate B/CS.

I will suggest 1775 BBQ. They are only open Thursday-Saturday...you will not be disappointed. It is located at 8203 Raymond Stotzer Pkwy.

I thought I make it back to College Station relatively often for living out of state (~2-3 years) but I don't recognize 1/2 of the stuff listed on here.

He's going to be spending a lot of time at Fuego (tacos). Might as well try it out now.

    In semi-order:
  • Fuego's, some of the best taco's you'll ever have, my personal favorite eatery in Aggieland
  • Layne's Chicken, best chicken fingers in Aggieland. Be in the know and order a club sandwich even if it's not on the menu
  • Hungry Howie's, best pizza in BCS, get the onion crust
  • Double Dave's, best pepperoni rolls in BCS, buffet is good too
  • Burger House, best Burger, order the Bulgogi Korean burger there as it's fantastic
  • Frittela, best local Italian, try their Frittela
  • IF you're walking around campus go to Antonio's on North Gate as it's really good and convenient New York style pizza by-the-slice
  • If you want BBQ, two of the state's best BBQ are about a 30-40 minute drive away, Truth's in Brenham and Snow's in Lexington. Both are fantastic and Snow's is up with Franklin's in terms of reputation, though I prefer Truth's as they have highend BBQ and highend sides.
  • For BBQ in BCS, either Fargo's or C & J's would be my recommendation.

What? Fargo's and C&J are horrible. 1775 west on Hwy 60 is great. It's really the only BBQ option in the immediate area.

Never understood the obsession with Laynes. Unless it was an off day every time I went there, their food is terrible.

Most pizza in B/CS is ok if you like eating uncooked pizza.

Since everyone has offered their food preferences, here's some things to actually see.

1. George H.W. Bush Library - Almost compulsory if you visit here. Has some very cool exhibits and Union Pacific 4141 was just installed there.

2. The Gardens at Texas A&M - Actually a pretty cool place, one of the few places you can see maroon bluebonnets.

3. Museum of the American GI - Its a relatively small museum so you'll only spend a couple hours there, but if you're lucky sometimes they have the tanks running of they'll fire off a few blank artillery rounds.

4. The women's softball team takes on Ole Miss for a three game series starting today thru Sunday over a Davis Diamond.

5. Student Memorial Center - Assuming you aren't former students this will most likely the building you frequent most, especially if you plan on attending Aggie Football games. I would recommend visiting it simply because its a completely different place outside of gamedays.

I would agree that Century Square is a really good spot. Lots of good places there: Napa, Hopdoddy, Piata.

Outside of Century Square -
Fuego is the place for tacos
And Gumbys has the best pizza rolls in BCS imo.
