Orange or Cotton?

These are the CFP Semis for next season. If A&M made it in the final 4 this time, I imagine most Aggie fans would want Cotton because 1) It is in Texas and 2) It would be our first 'NY6'-level Cotton Bowl

I wouldn't mind us going back to Miami though because I loved this Orange Bowl trip, even with the restrictions, and Jimbo is still undefeated in Orange Bowls/Hard Rock Stadium.

Considering who we have leaving the team, however, I would be pleased with any of the CFP/NY6 berths. We could end up in Sugar as the highest non-CFP SEC team or get an at-large to the Fiesta or Peach. I'd be happy adding any of these trophies to the trophy case with a new QB and OL.

I would go if the Ags were in a playoff game in Dallas.

And before anyone says "CFP or Bust" consider that Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma are all expected to be in the mix, and we have seen that if there is any excuse to put in a blue blood over the Aggies, they will do it. Also Notre Dame is not in ACC anymore, so they will not have to face Clemson during the regulare season or ACC title game. They do have quite a few potential stumbling blocks on their schedule, but I could see them rising into the field if they start stringing together wins vs Wisconsin, Cincy, UNC, and USC.

While ND does not have to play Clemson in 2021, they do have a formidable schedule with several ACC teams on the docket...plus Purdue, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, USC, and Stanford. I'm certainly no fan of Notre Dame, but if they go 11-1 or 12-0 with their current '21 schedule, they will have earned a playoff spot.

2021 ND Schedule

And yes, we all know the playoffs will consist of Bama, tOSU, Clemson, and OU/ND/Michigan/Texas/USC if there is any way possible to get those teams in the mix. For the time being, we all just have to accept that to be true.

If we go undefeated we will be #1 and in the cotton. If we go 11-1 with a close loss to Bama we should be 3 or 4 and headed to the orange.

Don't confuse the semi with the non-semi NY6 "contract" bowls. The advantage of the Cotton is potential turnout since our fan base travels less than enthusiastically (don't argue it...we can't even fill Reed when other SEC teams come here.)

If we want to turn heads, our fans need to be enthusiastic to go to both home games and remote games for our best teams. Football for sure.

In the future after the Arkansas series is back to home and home I hope our fan base loses their apathy for Jerrah and his World. We need to recruit DFW well. The whole state in fact. You never know when you can capture the imagination of a young student who happened to also play sports. I know I was take by surprise by Texas A&M.

Yep...#1 seed always get to go to the bowl game that is closest to the school.

So Cotton Bowl it is!

If we don't make the playoffs but are the highest ranked SEC team, we go to Sugar vs the highest available Big12 team.

Playing the nutless ones in the sugar bowl would be insane...NOLA might need weeks to recover

I see at least two losses and many as four: Wisconsin, Cincinnati, North Carolina, USC.

Well there is the dumbest thing I'll read on the internet in awhile

Even in a year when it's a semifinal game.. there are Ags who think we're above the Cotton Bowl and want no part of it... because we've played in that bowl game .. 4 times in the last 27 years. ... and only twice in the last 21 years....Yeah.. we're always there lol

Unbelievable

We'd probably get Iowa State or Oklahoma State. Or OU if they don't make the playoff.

I made the comment because if we're being considered for a NY6, its the last option on my personal list. Some of us have been watching Aggie football since the early to mid 80s, and yes... the Cotton bowl is a tired bowl thats not even played in the Cotton bowl.

The irony is, this is the same place that 90% of this board says that Jerry world is "sterile" etc. But when it comes to this topic people derp all over the the idea

JerryWorld is sterile but so is every other modern pro stadium. The only playoff location with any real character is the Rose Bowl. The rest are fairly dull minus a specific feature here or there. The Cotton is the easiest for Ags to get to and would likely lean heavy in our favor w/the crowd. Why wouldn't you want a potential playoff game to have more of a home crowd feel?

Because our players rather go somewhere other than Dallas. I would also prefer to travel out of state for a big game.

I would like to see A&M play in the Cotton Bowl, THE COTTON BOWL, the old stadium. Get Jerry Jones out of the loop. I would love to see him in an empty stadium.
I would like to see the cotton bowl game host #1 and #2 game on New Years day as it used to, A&M #1 and tu #2, plus A&M whip the sips all the way back to Austin!!!!!

If we're in the playoffs, I don't care where we play. Play the damn game on the moon if that's what it takes to be in the final four.

If this season taught us anything, I wouldn't count on that (with a loss)

If ou has only 1 loss they will go ahead of us

Clemson (or other acc champ with 0 or 1 loss goes ahead of us)

Bama as sec champ goes ahead of us

Then big champ 0 or 1 loss goes

Ags are out again with a loss to bama

If we want to make the playoffs we need to win the sec with 1 loss or less

It's crazy, but we can drop a game to anyone but bama or in the sec title game and still make it

Lose to bama and we have almost no shot in the current system

That's the perception and it may very well be correct but I wouldn't bank on the offense dropping off statistically. Obviously QB is a biggie. Admittedly lack of experience at that position will likely result in more turnovers Yes, wer'e losing experience on the OL but the guys stepping up are generally considered to have more upside. Center will be a key. Also, I have to think wer'e going to generally be faster. Achane is going to get more PT/carries. At least some of the highly ranked fish receivers are going to emerge. Fingers crossed but maybe Cupp will get healthy. Jmo, I don't think wer'e necessarily looking at a big dropoff.
