Just having your hand on top of the ball doesn't constitute possession. If he had possession, the Ohio State player wouldn't have been able to knock it away so easy.

One player being able to knock away a ball after being down doesn't dictate "possession"

Because Mond picked up the ball. Huge difference than just putting your hand in the ball.
