Wouldn't mind running the score up on a blue blood like USC or stay close to home in the Cotton and make another statement against OU to establish wins over both of our biggest regional recruiting opponents for the upcoming year.

I can't understand why anyone would want to play in the Cotton Bowl.

Sure beats the hell out of the Texas Bowl or the Independence Bowl or... and I hate to relive this... the GalleryFurniture.com bowl..

Orange would be nice as a change of pace, but the cotton is a big friggin game

I appreciate the Cotton Bowl for its history and the college football world has rightfully placed it just below the big boys. But this year we deserve the bigger and better, and I hope that it's the beginning of EXPECTING to be in the CFP or major bowls every year. We don't need to keep going to Arlington, been there done that. Time to be more on the national stage.

I prefer to go to the Orange Bowl this year, too. But in saying the Cotton Bowl has been placed "just below the big boys" shows you don't follow college football closely.

The Cotton is part of the New Years Six. It is on equal footing with the Orange, Sugar, Rose, Peach, and Fiesta.

The Cotton is not only the game that means most to us from a historical perspective, it is a MAJOR BOWL today.

Again, My preference is for the Orange Bowl this year. But anyone discounting the significance of the Cotton Bowl, and acting like it's beneath us, doesn't understand college football.

I do understand that the Cotton Bowl is, deservedly so, a New Years Day game. But it's still not the Rose, Sugar, Orange or Fiesta. It has been a very important bowl game for us in terms of recruiting and being in our backyard to increase fan attendance, but nobody will ever claim it holds the same prestige as the others.

I loved beating the hell outta OU there in Johnny's first season, but we can aspire to more and should, always.

Edit to add: The Peach Bowl? The fact that it's a NYD bowl doesn't help the argument.

#5 is a cursed spot. After playoff talk and hype, the dejected players get a consolation game they're told they should win easily. It's a recipe for an upset.

It may be a NY6 bowl, but it hasn't been on the Rose/Fiesta/Orange/Sugar tier in terms of prominence in a while... the Peach even more so (we played Duke in the peach in 2013)

If we don't make the playoffs, we're going to the Orange Bowl. I was looking forward to exposing the weak Miami run defense, but NC did it yesterday. We should be able to handle anything the ACC sends us, but I'd really like Ohio State or Notre Dame.

Orange Bowl against anybody. No idea why Ags would want to play in the Cotton instead of national exposure in Florida. Cotton Bowl is so yesterday. Time for something new.

Given that SEC slots sugar & orange above cotton, they are not on equal footing. It's still a major bowl & huge deal for program to get to

Orange
Cotton Fiesta Peach

What helps us recruit? Hype. I want the most hyped up program available from another region:

-Loser of acccg (unlikely)
-Penn st, Michigan, wiscy, maybe Iowa
-Miami is still a name
-USCw or Oregon

That is so right, examples in the not so distant past. OU/Bama, t.u/Georgia (dawgs just went trough the motions)
t.u./ Utah( Utah just mailed it in. Little further back, a couple of Sun Bowls, one where USC shouldn't have bothered to show up, another when SMU beat Alabama. Just thought of maybe the ultimate example, when we beat Kansas State in the Big 12 title game and they stunk up the Alamodome. That's on the coaches to see that doesn't happen.

It can go the other way, LSU goes to a NY6 bowl. shows that Florida directional school what happens when you play the big boys, and lays the groundwork for a national championship.

Orange Bowl against anyone. While we do recruit against OU, let's show the kids in Florida what we are about. Florida is ripe with talent and Jimbo knows the key HS coaches in the state from his days at FSU.

Yeah you're right... we're so above that.

The biggest problem with the Cotton Bowl is that, when it isn't a host for the CFP, it has a BDF tie-in.

And then to compound that issue, when OU has undeservedly gotten into the CFP, you end up with an absolute garbage BDF team or some G5 poser. That just does nothing to garner any excitement.

Doesn't the Cotton make it easy to have recruits out to watch practices? Can't do that elsewhere.

If the opponent in the cotton wasn't a BDF team, I'm sure a lot more Aggies would be for playing there if we don't make the playoffs

Honestly, playing Miami isn't very exciting now either after Mack brown pantsed them
