I'm sure it's been covered here before, but isn't the Cotton Bowl technically an at-large vs at-large bid now? Do they have an allegiance to SEC vs BIG12 anymore, or is that just the assumption because we're the closest conferences geographically?

I'm just wondering if there is any chance we'd still get the Cotton bowl but play against someone outside of the BIG12, especially if Iowa St. were to win the conference as they're about as far away from the Dallas as the available BIG10 teams would be. Or Colorado from the PAC12, ND from ACC, etc.

I always thought a non playoff bound SEC team would head to then Sugar vs a sippy 10 team

Questions for yall on NY6 bowl games. If we dont make the CFP*

Who do we want to play? Personally I want to play a blue blood program to get the most exposure and gain recruiting momentum.

Call me crazy but I want to play OU. Historically good program and we have lots of head to heads with them. Kicking their ass in a NY6 bowl game would be a bigger recruiting win then going to play Miami.

Jimbo has been winning the in-states that he needs too, recruiting amazing nationally, but we need to win those 5 star kids in Texas.

All 2020/2021 Bowl Tie-ins explained here.

https://collegefootballnews.com/2020/03/2020-2021-college-football-bowl-ties-affiliations-for-each-conference

Quote:

The top four teams ranked by the College Football Playoff selection committee will be slotted in the semifinals: Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, both on Friday, January 1st, 2021.

The two winners to play in the College Football Playoff National Championship in Miami, Florida on Monday, January 11th, 2021.

The highest-ranked conference champion from the American Athletic, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt will automatically get one spot in either the College Football Playoff, GoodYear Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

The Rose Bowl is a College Football Playoff semifinal, so the Big Ten and Pac-12 tie-ins aren't a factor this season.

The Capital One Orange Bowl will be the ACC (the champion, if not in the CFP, otherwise, the next-highest ranked team) vs. the highest-ranked non-champion among the Big Ten, SEC, or Notre Dame that's not in the playoff.

During the BCS era, the Cotton Bowl would be the Big XII's (and SEC West's) second place non-BCS bowl; currently the Cotton Bowl is now back to being a major NY6 bowl. When the Sugar Bowl (currently the SEC champ vs the BigXII champ) is a CFP semifinal and the Big XII (and/or SEC) champ fails to qualify for the CFP, they will get an auto-bid to a NY6 bowl, in the Big XII's case that is most likely the Cotton Bowl.

When the Sugar Bowl is just a NY6 bowl, if the SEC champ does not qualify for the CFP semifinal, then they will land here to face either the (Big XII champ/runner-up or an at-large).

6.25M watched Penn St/Memphis I'd bet Aggies/OU would draw a lot more than that.

ISU would definitely bring less eyeballs, but I don't see them beating OU again.

with Florida's loss tonight...the NY6 selections just got a lot more interesting.

figure Bama blows out the Gators by 20+ points...the SEC might only get 3 teams in the CFP/NY6: Bama, A&M, and UGA.

then the committee would have to take a 3rd B1G team or 2nd BDF team to fill the NY6.

or could 2 group of five teams get in?
