You can tell that there is so much disdain for A&M among the national sports media. You can tell that they absolutely hate that A&M beat Florida and is ranked ahead of them. They hate that a Notre Dame win could get A&M into the playoffs, and they hate that A&M is threatening their beloved Ohio State. But my questions is why? We're 7-1 and our only loss is to #1 Alabama. We've got a pretty good case to be in the conversation if you ask me, as evident by our Top 5 ranking.

I know from older Ags that there is a history of national sports media putting down A&M, and just wanted to know some of the history behind that if anybody cares to share!

Because we had the audacity to challenge the traditional powers, and steal a National Championship Coach from said powers. We need to know our place.

I honestly don't think it has anythign to do with the media "hating" A&M more than A&M hasn't been a traditional power like Bama, tOSU, etc. The Aggies also don't have a huge TV market like ND or Texas. so they don't see a need to really "lift them up" like the do other programs.

How do we fix that? Win. The media CANNOT ignore a program that wins, no matter how much they try. Look at UCF, Boise state in the 2010s, etc. Just win baby and the rest takes care of itself.

They hate A&M because we are not Texas. They also hate anyone that tries to push their way into the blue blood conversation. The reason why they are more accepting of Clemson is because USC east isn't any good. So Clemson can represent that state.

Just my opinion there may be more history to this talking point that I am unaware of.

I say this over and over because that's all the national media remembers. Wins.

Not strength of schedule. Or what games looked like. Or margin of victory. That's all forgetable.

We aren't respected because we don't win consistently. That's it. It's not complicated.

It might take a while but it will. A few years ago Clemson wasn't even good at football. And Florida State was a powerhouse.

They don't hate us, we just haven't earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt or have the history behind us. We are behind the undefeated team that trounced us, 2 other undefeated teams and last years national champion runner up who only lost because their starting QB and some defense had to miss the game. It is very understandable.

We have produced some great players but have nothing to show for it. No natty's, no conference championships, not even conf champ appearances. If you want to be a media darling who they fawn over, we have to earn it.

We are the red headed step child of college football

I know watching GameDay the last say 6 years, some of them began to sour on us due to Sumlin. We would be hyped up during the off-season, start 5-0 6-0, and they would buy into the hype and then we would fall flat the rest of the season mostly in November and they felt burned as all of us did by believing in the early season hype and success just to be let down late. As has been said JUST WIN AND THE REST WILL TAKE CARE OF IT SELF. String some 10, 11 win seasons together and be fighting for playoffs every season and they won't have a choice.

If that was true we wouldn't be #5. We would be #8.

Because the liberal media doesn't like a historically conservative University.

Aggies represent the traditional, the military, the south, masculinity and conservatism. Does that answer your question about why they don't like us?

Because we're not historically a bastion of liberalism. Our liberal arts programs have not been as prominent as others. We excel in agricultural & engineering/sciences. Our history has deep military roots. We are a university with generally conservative values. All of the things the media are, we're not. IMHO

Like other fans, the media turns their nose at A&M because we walk and talk like a program with a lot of championship trophies but our case it's empty in spite of the fact that we have all the factors needed to be an annual top 10 team competing for championships.

I've always thought that because A&M doesn't have a school of journalism there aren't many Aggies in sports media so Aggies get overlooked- the problem with that theory is Missouri has one of the best J schools in the country but look at their respect - who are the Aggies in sports journalism?

They hate us because they have BAS as well... every time they find a reason to back us like the "Johnny Football story" we go and screw it up with a signatures for cash scandal, undefeated starts to epic melts in November, huge leads and pimp sticks to epic fourth qtr craters. We have always pulled the rug out from under the media in recent history so it's a lot easier to cast as the heel than the hero.

Mike- no offense intended. Just meant I don't think the national media is biased against A&M. Once we win consistently and convincingly the narrative WILL change. This year the program made a gigantic leap.

Wrong. Clemson dealt with not being taken seriously for a long time because they always choked the big games, it wasn't until recently that their perception changed because, you guess led it, they starting winning national championships

Maybe if we hadn't struggled vs. vandy, LSU, and hadnt failed to really put away anybody on the schedule except usc there would be a case for us in top four right now, but we did those things.

. Then why do they love BYU, Coastal Carolina, etc? They have not earned anything. Look, when you beat Auburn, rush for over 300 yards, out score them 17-0 in the 4th and they say it is not impressive is just football stupid. Ohio State has beaten 4 teams with only 2 wins and beat Indiana by 7. Are they good, yes. But if you listen to the media they are world beaters. They even try to say Florida who we beat is better. Florida's defense is bad. And some of their wins have not been impressive at all. Bama beat us in week two. I believe we had over 400 yards of offense. We missed two fourth downs in their end of the field. And threw an int in the end zone. Score could have been closer. We are better now. There is more to it. I am not sure what. But it is there.

It's not hate, it's not a conspiracy, it's mainly a lack of respect. aTm isn't well known as a championship winning program.

We just need to win and keep winning. That is how you change peoples' minds.

You are supposed to be looking at this season. The past should have nothing to do with it. Only judge this team. Alabama was bad for years at one time. So was Clemson and ND. Judge this team on their merits. The past is a bad excuse the media uses.

I was going to post this a few days ago. The top 4 teams have proven themselves over the years, for sure Bama and Ohio St. If we want respect we gotta earn it

The post didn't take issue with where A&M was ranked (I think A&M should be 4 or 5), but more the tone in which many in the media talk about A&M. Very dismissive and frustrated that we are where we are.
