I really hoped that we would have a shot at the playoff in the next 2-3 years. But IMHO, I don't see this year being the year. We have too many cards that have to fall our way in order for us to sneak in. A New Years Day bowl game is nothing to be ashamed of, especially if we play a quality opponent and win. I just want to prepare all of you guys who don't have BAS yet, our let down in inevitable and is coming.

I would love to eat my words and this be untrue. But from my experience as an Aggie, something will happen that will totally screw us over from getting into the playoff. Just calling my shot... the media loves 4 teams way more than they like A&M.

Either way this is a great season so far with a lot of momentum to build off of going forward.

We need to let ND and Clemson hash it out again before it can be decided. If ND gets thrashed by clemson then we could be in. If ND wins then we're for sure in.

And there's still more games to be played. We need to handle business and we'll see if the others continue to as well.

Just keep winning and all will be well.

If we win out, we are in. Nobody from the Pac12 has enough going for them. Only an undefeated Big 10 gets in. Ok St will be rated higher than the AP has them but they aren't in a good position. If ND loses to Clemson by 16+, the committee will say that ND only beat Clemson because there was no TL and it took 2 OTs at home to do it, this will be the reason ND is NOT the first team to go undefeated, lose a conference championship game and get in to the playoff. The committee forgives losses to the top teams early in the season if you turn things around later: See 2 loss Auburn at #2 in the CFP rankings in 2017.

If I'm wrong and we don't get in, let's call back back some of this board's 3-7 predictions after week 2, then we can go win a NY6 bowl, rake up the 4 stars, add a couple 5 stars, and comeback with a chip on our shoulder next year. This program is trending in the right direction. Let's close this thing out one game at a time, knowing that the postseason looks REALLY good, even if we don't make the playoff.

We need more chicken little threads like this one so when it does happen the rest of us can point and laugh.

Win out and we have a real shot. We might be kept out due to the Bama loss and an inconclusive ACC, but that's a hell of a lot closer than most other schools.

We might not get in, but anyone who isn't excited about our state of the program right now might want to actually start watching the games.

If we go 9-1 and don't make the playoff then so be it. At that point we will have done all we could (except beat Bama) to make our case. I just hope that if we do miss out then we get a big W in the bowl and continue to build on this season.

also let's not forget that it is totally possible for us to lose another 1-2 games. that would seem like a let down to many at this point, but a 7-3 record at the beginning of the year sounded like solid record to most, and 8-2 back then would have led to a lot of people doing backflips...

I, too, hoped this was a Raptor thread. I have come around to those who say ACC championship game is a play-in, and that there is no way the committee allows a third game between ND and Clemson. So we get screwed if Florida beats Alabama (doubt it), if BIG has a better second team that doesn't lose BIG championship game, or if the committee elevates a BDF or PAC 12 team. Or if we beat ourselves.

I don't see that many roadblocks. Win out, bama win out, and either have notre same win out or Clemson blow out notre dame in ACC title game. that is what it would take to make the playoffs.

One would have to think Winning out and a Notre Dame regular season loss or another Clemson loss would do it..seems straight forward to me..other teams like Cincy, BYU, Indiana, Wisconsin, Miami, Oregon, USC, could certainly jump but if you think a lot has to happen for us to be in the 4 spot, take a look at what each of these teams would have to do to be there..

Question: what if we end the season at 7-1? What happens?

Need more information right? Like what are the records/how many games were played by the other teams..

Well, with OU being down this year, there's an opening for the 4 seed who will get the annual curb-stomping. Mond has already shown he's up to that task.

Winning our games against LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, and Ole Miss is honestly what I care most about personally. I want to see us win out.

There wouldn't be a third game though, Clemson would be 2 or 3 and nd 4. They don't care about a rematch in the title game if they both win. Plus a rematch of teams 28 points apart is even dumber.

Losing to bama by 28 is what will keep us out. With how pointless this year is, I think a g5 gets a spot if it's not bama/osu/Clem/nd

Just root next week for UNC to beat ND.... then we really don't have much to worry about.

There is precedent for second place division teams: Alabama 2017. And early season losses are more easily forgiven. There is precedent for that too. Especially on the road against #1.

Bingo. Winning the remaining 4 games, especially with an unexpected two-week delay in there, would show remarkable growth and a positive trend in the mentality and physicality of our program after what seems like season after season of second half let-downs.

There is still hope OP. Biden is promising a BAS vaccine by inaugeration day.
