What an awesome game. The byu coach was such a Dick at the end pouting about how we ran up the score, while his whole career was based on running the score on the teams of the sisters of the poor conference he played. Also, the whole week of the game he and his team whined about how they were too good to play the third place team of the SWC and deserved a better opponent.

For those too young to remember, BYU spent the time up to the game running their mouths about how they deserved a better opponent.

I believe RC got miffed about that.

Was the only time I ever saw RC run up the score intentionally on anyone. And they deserved every bit of it

Robert Wilson was an absolute beast. Watch that guy block. Not block, pancake the defensive players. Unreal

This game is always, and I mean always, fun to watch again.

I'm getting older so I forget things but isn't this the game we separated both shoulders of the BYU QB on different plays?

Yes. And it was Texan traitor Ty Detmer

That was my wedding night! Was in shock when I realized that we had been picked for the Holiday Bowl and that particular date. Fortunately (and unbeknown to my bride to be...), one of my groomsmen had a pocket radio and an earpiece so that he could keep us all up to speed on how the game was going.

Never saw anyone consistently pancake people like him. Wish he would have stayed for his senior year. Best all around fullback I ever saw.

Seperated all his shoulders.

EDIT - I'd forgotten what a jack ass Lavell Edwards was. He made a name for himself with 24-25 year olds olaying in a weak ass cinference. There was such an inflated opinion of what BYU football was.

Edwards was pissed about that game but make no mistake... we ran the score up on him.

Ran a reverse passes and flea flickers in the 4th quarter and scored our last TD on a play action pass with 2 min left in the ballgame.

He may have been an ass but he had a leg to stand on that night.

If that game happens in today world A&M catches some heat publically for running up the score.

Only thing I can remember was Sean Mcdonnugh saying after that game he didn't blame Lavell for not being in a big hurry to congratulate RC.

Lavell had a quick exchange with Bob Toledo , in which could visibly see Lavell was pissed...and then he didn't shake hands with RC.

But BYU did spend the entire week running their mouths about how they felt they deserved a better opponent

He played at Southwest and never beat Uvalde. We joked that he couldn't beat teams wearing maroon.

One of my favorite games ever. BYU deserved everything they got for all of their smack talking before the game.

Jackass Ewards had no leg to stand on given all the disrespect he and his team spewed the weeks leading up to the game.

That was the night we flew to Panama for our first OCONUS assignment with SOUTHCOM. I was expecting to be in a third world situation until we were checking in at the guesthouse and the desk clerk had the game on. I asked if we got it in the rooms and he said yes. Never checked in so fast. Not sure if the wife and kids brought in all the suitcases or if I did at halftime.

Great night and a great start to an assignment.

Was one of the best games in memory. The Wrecking Crew wrecked byu and detmer. Running up the score is a myth. It's on the defense to stop the other team from scoring.

Attendance = 62,000

What non-NY6 bowl game comes anywhere close to that these days? Maybe the Alamo Bowl? Any others?

If memory serves, Slocum was prepared for the backlash of running up the score in the post game presser - had a list of the scores of BYU's games that season in his pocket and pulled it out and read them off when the first question came.

BYU and Edwards deserved every bit of getting run up on. And if Slocum had kept that attitude as a head coach, we would have won a national championship with him.

And detmer stayed in for 90+ of all those games to pad the stats and win the Heisman that Lewis deserved (pretty much lost the PR battle after jacking an LSU defender in the mouth after an out of bounds late hit). There was definitely a "lets show you what a real Heisman winner looks like" vibe. And we put Pavlas in later. And then the third string QB, my lab partner got reps. Screw BYU. They deserved all of it and the rest of the WAC rejoiced.

His blocking earned him a spot on the Houston Oilers for a few years, I seem to recall.

And at the very end of the game that was our DC, a young Bob Davie walking off it RC

We beat Missouri at Kyle 73-0 in 1993.

I don't really recall RC running up the score on anyone except BYU. We regularly beat the dog snot out of Rice, TCU, SMU, and Baylor...but everybody did.

Wilson did not play for the Oilers. Tampa, Dallas, and Miami.
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'
