Very interesting thought about switching to the flex bone. Gt is the only p5 that tried it. I need to dig deeper, but at first glance they were good his first 2 years then up and down afterwards. They only won 8+ twice in the next 8'years.

My guess is that the conference got used to defending the system. Will dig deeper later.

The bigger question is the politics and booster expectations. Flex bone has a high floor but low ceiling. Would the boosters accept that?

I will dig a little deeper into gt and other non-academy programs running it.

2012 - at Auburn - we won 63-21. Auburn was terrible in '12 and Johnny had his way with the Tigers. Again, the defense allowed 3 TDs, so not on the level of last night's game.

This was one that came to my mind. Auburn gave up a school-record 671 yards in a loss to Texas A&M.

I think what people forget that even in the Auburn game they scored 21 points and our defense was always vulnerable in the Sumlin era. We had our backups in on defense and there was no way they were going to sniff the end zone last Saturday.

the 2013 starting lineup on defense was very solid. it was just paper-thin with nothing behind it. the jimbo plan is much more friendly to not overly exposing the defense than sumlin's was. it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

not directly on point but i think the byu-beatdown in the holiday bowl is the most physically dominating performance i have ever seen.

We scored 70+ on Baylor in the early 2000's.

I know GT had a pair of Orange Bowl appearances and several other bowl appearances as well.

I get what you're saying about the boosters, and they ultimately control things, but schools like KU, Vandy, etc., need to realize they are never going to get the kids in recruiting to truly compete running what everyone else runs.

Why not use what the academies do, and have success with, and improve themselves.

I guarantee you most of the Big 12 teams will not be built to stop it, especially on 3-4 days practice.

I don't think it has been said but @ UCLA in 2017. The rumors started immediately about Sumlin leaving at the end of the season after that game.
