I don't think Saban will retire. He'll keep going like Paterno did, but with better results on and off the field.

Tap the brakes, OP. Team is 3-1, including wins against two pretty bad opponents.

My personal opinion, Jimbo won't reach the pinnacle again until he hires a true OC and puts the clipboard down. Then, he's young enough that he could eventually become the best ever.

Could be debated if/when he wins the conference.

He might as well be...have you seen the $$ size of his buyout?!? He's going nowhere regardless!!

So yes...he's the best after satan! (That was not a typo)

If and when that time ever does come, it will be a very interesting conversation amongst the Clemson big cigar people, if they want to try to make sure that Dabo never leaves. If he wins a championship this year, his next contract extension will probably put him around 12 million a year and it will some sort of rollover so that it basically is a five-year buyout no matter when he wants to go. They will want to keep him, but more importantly, they will want to make sure that Bama cannot afford to buy him out--or Texas, for that matter.

For the record, if Dabo wins again this year, I think Texas makes a run at him, either now or after next season.

You are starting to see the superior players all over the field for Jimbo but Sam Pittman is SEC coach of the year so far and I would put Mike Stoops behind him.

And then they complained about Jimbo's contract when they have nothing to do with paying him.

Smart has done more. So why put him ahead of smart? Jimbo is possibly making progress this year but let's see where we finish.

A bit of a "prisoner of the moment" take. Two months ago, there is no way in hell anyone here would have put Jimbo ahead of Coach O or Kirby and maybe not ahead of Mullen. Things change and will change again and again.

Kirby's team played Bama better than Jimbo's did. At least be honest. Jimbo is still on the rise but for real...just be honest.

You're doing the same thing as OP just reverse. We've played 1 top 2 team and 1 top 10 team. Lost to the top 2 and beat the top 10. Then we've played 2 average or worse teams, and handled our business. Which is not something we've done in the past. Realistically, right now, we've shown to be the 3rd best team in the SEC and a top 10 team in the country. With all of our games remaining against teams with less talent. If we handle our business, idc if its ugly, we could be sitting at 9-1 with a QB that quite honestly is average at best. Will we go 9-1? Who knows. But in reality, we've shown to be much better than people want to give us credit for. Our defense has only been burned by elite offenses. And even then, I'd say that UF didn't burn us. Leon gave up 2-3 of those TDs himself. With Buddy playing one of his worst games in a while.

This year is a terrible year to try and money whip a coach. I think Tom is in Austin for at least one more year.

The only place I see Saban possibly leaving for is Alabama. Clemson gives him everything he wants. He's lived his whole life in the Southeast. Better conference. National recruiting profile. UT offers nothing except money over Clemson at this point.

It's exceedingly rare for a coach to be lured away from a school where they won an NC directly to another school. The last time it happened in recent memory Jimbo. And that was due to FSU allowing other conference schools to lap them in facilities, assistants, etc. Something Dabo doesn't have to worry about.

Kirby dreadful in big games?

Only when those big games are against bama

Most teams are dreadful against bama

After saban,

I think jimbo, Kirby and Mullen are in the next tier

Ed O is still an enigma

Let's see how he bounces back tge rest of this season and next season

If he does well the East if they say and wins 9 or 10 in 2021 then he's in that tier 2 group also

If he doesn't, then he' might be the next chizik

Jimbo is 20-4 vs teams not ranked #1 or #2. If he keeps recruiting like he has been, there is no question his record will reflect he's the best coach in SEC not named Saban.

Who else would be in consideration? Kirby?

Kirby Smart:
2016: lost 5 games (none against top 2 teams)
2017: lost 2 game (1 against Bama in Championship game, 1 against #10 Auburn)
2018: lost 3 games (1 against #1 Bama)
2019: lost 2 games (1 against #2 LSU)

So Smart's lost 9 games in 4+ seasons against teams not ranked #1 or #2 and he doesn't have to play Bama and LSU every year.

2016: Georgia lost to 5-7 Ole Miss, 9-4 Tennessee, 6-7 Vanderbilt, 9-4 SEC East champion Florida, and 9-4 Georgia Tech. Their worst loss was to 6-6 Vanderbilt at home.

2018: Besides a 35-28 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, Georgia's other two losses were a 36-16 loss at LSU and a 28-21 loss to Texas in the Sugar Bowl.

2019: 20-17 2-OT loss to 4-8 South Carolina at home, but they managed to beat Auburn 21-14 on the road. That was Smart's first road win over an SEC West team. Prior to that, he was 0-3 in road games against SEC West teams, and all three of those losses were by 20 or more points.

Outside of Alabama and LSU, Kirby Smart has lost 8 games, but 5 of those losses were in his first year. Since 2017, he has lost only one game against division opponents, and that was to South Carolina last year. Until Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators beat Georgia, Georgia will be perennial SEC East winners.

Maybe.

Kind of depends on who replaces Saban, and also on what Jimbo does between now and then. I am starting to see the impact of Jimbo's recruiting. Did many even notice that Bobby Brown didn't play Saturday? I know some of you did but a lot of people didn't. When you lose a starter and there's no noticeable dropoff then you know your'e starting to get there with talent and depth. Same thing with the OL. We lost a starter vs Bama and yet the offensive line continues to improve. I was really bummed after the first 2 games but I am slowly moving back to the pumper side.

Why should Kirby get a pass for his 1st year? Second, two of the 3 non-top #1 or #2 losses Smart has suffered after his 1st year were to Auburn and LSU, teams they don't play every year but we do. Given the scheduling advantages UGA has, Smart's record against non-top teams is actually worse than Jimbo's. Even if you give Smart a pass on the 1st year, he's still barely better than Jimbo with a much easier schedule.

Jimbo's losses to non #1 or #2 teams:
2018: unranked Auburn; unranked MSU
2019: #8 Auburn; #4 UGA

Dabo walked on and lettered at Alabama, so they would be "momma" if he heard her calling.

Actually, Georgia plays Auburn every year. Auburn is their permanent cross-division rival, and Smart has gone 5-1 against Auburn, including a 28-7 rout of Auburn in the 2017 SEC Championship game. By comparison, Jimbo Fisher is 0-2 against Auburn. That's about the only true advantage Smart has over Fisher. Hopefully, Fisher will get his first win against Auburn on 12/5.

Yes, Georgia has a huge scheduling advantage over us. Their only formidable annual opponents are Florida and Auburn, and Smart has consistently beaten them. They don't have to play Alabama and LSU every year, like we do. That's why they have posted three consecutive 11-1 regular season finishes from 2017 to 2019.

I'm aware of that.

All I'm saying is that he has it good at Clemson and there's no reason for him to replace Saban. If he's smart, he'll wait and be the guy that replaces the guy that replaces Saban.
