It's a bit silly to even contemplate at this point imo.

There is no question you'd rather make the playoff than just a NY6 bowl based on this analysis:

Chances of winning National championship in NY6 bowl = zero

Chances of winning National championship in playoffs is something greater than zero

To get in the playoff we would have to win out and win convincingly. Also hope for a little luck with Bama dropping a game.

Actually, Bama winning out and potentially giving Georgia it's second loss would be better. If we were 9-1, the Big 10 champion likely gets in, the ACC champion (assuming Clemson) likely gets in. If OK State doesn't win the Big 12 as an undefeated team, we likely get the #4 seed.

If you were referring to us getting into the SEC championship game, I believe we need Bama to lose twice.

The best would be bama having 2 losses and us winning out. Not likely.

Next best would be bama years everyone left a new one, it turns out lane was stealing signals, and every other program has 2+ losses.

Not saying we go 9-1 but anyone who says our "best chance" is having Bama lose 2 games obviously doesn't know how things work. The ONLY chance we have is that Bama runs the table, and makes it look easy. We want our only loss to be against the cream of the crop. We ALSO want Florida to go on and win pretty much every other game to elevate our win against them. If they someone beat Georgia and represent the East in the SEC title game, they would obviously lose to Bama in this scenario thus allowing us to leapfrog them.

Our loss to Bama was early enough in the season as well and would give us plenty of time to build the resume and continue to rise in the polls. I don't see any conference besides the SEC with the ability to get in a second team right now.

With that said, there is a LOT of football left to play and this team has to learn to play consistently good football, which obviously has been the knock on Mond so far.

It's nice to have hope tho!

Sounds like you're giddy about the possibility of the Ags losing so you can crow about your prediction. I suppose the more we lose the more you can boast. Great job there!

You'll be the first in line rolling heads.

Temper your expectations then maybe you can compose yourself when we don't win out.

This conversation is academic at this point, but anyways:

I meant the scenario where the committee can't screw us is we win the secw and then beat uga for the conference.

Last year, uga was better than ou. Vegas, pundits, everyone knew it. Didn't matter that uga won a playoff game and took bama to the wire. Didn't matter that ou gets exposed every year in the playoff.

Uga has some cred. We don't. If they won't do right by uga, we have no chance vs a 1 loss conference champ, no matter how badly that conference sucks.

The worst thing that could happen is bama go to the seccg w 1 loss and get beat by uga.

IF bama doesn't lose 2, we would be better served by them massacring everyone left. We still would need the bdf and pac champ w 2 losses.

I don't believe we will win out to finish 9-1 because that would mean having to win road games at Missipppi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Auburn. Jimbo Fisher is 2-6 in true SEC road games, and both road wins were by 7 points or less: a 26-23 win over 7-6 South Carolina on 10/13/18 and a 24-17 win over 4-8 Ole Miss on 10/19/19. In fact, we have not scored more than 26 points in a road game since a 31-24 win at Ole Miss on 11/19/17. I am expecting a 7-3 or 8-2 finish.

If we managed to miraculously win out, we could get the last college football playoff spot. I predict Alabama will beat Georgia this Saturday and again in the SEC Championship game and drop Georgia to 9-2. Florida would have at least two losses to Texas A&M and Georgia to drop to 8-2. Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State will likely hold the first three playoff spots. Penn State might finish 7-1 with their only loss to Ohio State. The CFP committee will choose between 9-1 Texas A&M and 7-1 Penn State as the fourth playoff team.

Your attempt at deflection doesn't change what you wrote. So if we do lose a few more, go ahead and gloat. I'm sure you'll be happy you "booked it."

What you wouldn't want to happen is Clemson to lose to Notre Dame at Notre Dame regular season and then come back and beat them in the ACC Championship because then you would have two 11-1 ACC schools with clout/history making a case for the playoff spots (assuming UNC or some wild card like Boston College or Va Tech don't throw a wrench in there for somebody)

It's better from an Aggie perspective for Clemson to win them all, hand Notre Dame two losses, and assumedly only one spot be claimed.

Although truth be told I feel this example might actually play out as Notre Dame v A&M in the Orange Bowl which would also be pretty cool.

I tend to think A&M's best chance for the playoff is for Bama to run the table...such that the SEC East champ is not a factor in the playoff.

especially since the Ags pinned loss #1 on Florida last Saturday

I agree with you. I predict Alabama will beat Georgia this Saturday, and Georgia will beat Florida on 11/7 and win the SEC East. I also think Alabama will beat Georgia again in the SEC Championship game to finish 11-0 before the bowl games. We do not want Georgia to lose to Alabama and then come back to beat Alabama in the SEC Championship game. It's also possible that Georgia could upset Alabama, but Alabama would beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. In either scenario, there would be two 10-1 SEC teams, and both of them would make the College Football Playoffs.

While I agree that the track record is concerning, I don't think you can compare past results to this year. We had yet to beat a top 5 team at home even in the Sumlin years and we did it this Saturday, and it wasn't just luck.

We have a legitimate shot at winning out if the team plays up to its potential and eliminates the stupid mistakes. The Tennesee and Auburn games have me hopefully optimistic but we cannot look past them.

I think we can definitely finish out 9-1, 8-2 at least with one close loss. I personally do not want to make the playoffs this year unless our Defense picks up drastically. I would rather play a NY6 game and get another statement win rather than a playoff beat down by Clemson or Ohio State.
