Generally I think SP+ is dumb but its hard to argue with any of these points.

Does he not look at anything but statistics? He asks how we can be significantly better replacing 4 wrs.

Not saying we will, but we could bc WRs on the roster are:
1 4* rsjr, played meaningful snaps in 18, hurt in 19
2 4* rsso who at least got on the field last year
2 4* rsfr
1 5* tf
1 4* tf

Someone will have a big year. If 2-3 wrs have big years, we will be nasty.

Definitely a possibility but with 0 experience it may take a little while for them to adjust and start clicking.

I'm hoping by week 3 we are firing on all cylinders if not sooner.

I tend to agree and think we are going to miss Hines more than all the missing WR. But there is no arguing that we currently have a huge question mark at WR and very little SEC game experience to fill the gap.

His comments seem spot on if subjective to me. We have been terrible at actually picking winning coaches through most of our history. The RC era is most memorable for most living Ags since the really large classes started in the 90.

I was shocked Bright hired Sherrill and that he didn't get blocked by the typical support the school group. And even the discussion of hiring Bo Schembechler prior to Sherrill. It was just strange to see us find the ability to make good decisions. And to bring someone in that had zero ties to Texas though was a native Oklahoman who played at 'Bama.

I was disappointed with how weak the offense was under RC. But had no clue that four offensive-oriented coaches following really could not move the needle in their first two years. The exception was Sumlin of course, but there is little doubt that Manziel was a key ingredient in that particular alchemy from a leadership perspective similar to Bucky when he got in games. Something changed when each broke huddles/snapped the ball. In my history only Kevin Murray was as electric. That doesn't mean others weren't effective, but you could put the game in the hands of any of those three and expect them to lead the whole team to compete and more often than not win.

That isn't a comparison to Mond per se. But so far Jimbo hasn't created the hat kind of electricity and hasn't made up for that lack with an unemotional but highly consistent pure execution regime like Saban does (Saban does both, of we are honest, but is execution first.)

The theory for the Fisher hire was that he brought process like Saban and I trust that is happening. But it's disappointing we don't also have the electricity from a leadership standpoint on either offense or defense yet.

I tend to feel the 1 loss is fair though the don't concede it's an automatic loss. I agree there are three other tossups and likely one other where we don't matchup that great. But I'm excited by the ten game in-conference schedule more than anything else. That's going to be the most brutal schedule we have played against the worst grind of a conference. Yes with last year's tough eight conference games plus Clemson we likely had a harder schedule to win in. But Clemson didn't grind us away either year the way our conference mates have.

This is going to be a good one and I honestly am not concerned about the W/L record at the end. Going to really be a test of Jimbo's ability to keep the team working and not panicking and not quitting. If we see the team respond well then the future is bright imho.

I can agree that the electricity hasn't hit yet, but I don't think that's what Fisher was hired to guarantee. Fisher's job is to turn us into a year-in and year-out blue blood program who is consistently competing for championships. When you raise the program to that level, 2012 becomes the baseline rather than the peak. When you get to that level and the recruiting becomes self sustaining, you percentage chance of landing that electric player goes up drastically so that you're more often getting a Tua or Trevor that helps you peak at a national championship.

Honestly, I'm so damn impressed with Jimbo's recruiting. He's now recruited multiple years at a championship level, with no sign of slowing, without having the wins most of those guys have. Go down the list of perennial top 10 recruiting schools and it's a who's who of championship, winning schools. And us.

We have little experience at wr, but more than O. Hezekia, Preston, and Chapman have had 2 full years in jimbos system. Hezekiah had catches against MSU and some other good teams in 18. Preston and Chapman played some.

Not saying it happens. Taking issue with him saying no chance. If he would have looked beyond '19 stats, he might have seen it.

My takeaway from this is that a guy who is really good at statistics thinks we will be a 6.5 team on average if we have little-to-no improvement from our WR unit. Given what I expect out of our guys there, I'm okay with that assessment.

I am surprised that people aren't more worried about our WR situation, but there's no doubt we will have faster more explosive players at the position this year. Jimbo is likely going to have to simplify the offense a bit as well, which may end up being a plus.

God that program graph is wild... but I have to agree that we have a lot of toss-ups now with opt-outs and injuries.

Most of the questions look like they are (again) coming in the passing game. We need multiple unproven WRs to show they are contributors and our playcalling needs to support that, it can't all fall to Anias and Wydermeyer.

Glad to see how well we ranked in the running game, despite the struggles with QB play and the OL. If we commit to running Kellen early within the flow of the game that can really help out getting us into a rhythm.

As always I can't get enough of Bill C's analysis

I'm thinking they may struggle a little early but finish strong. With 2 tough games early I could easily see us sitting at 2-2 going into our bye week.

I think the Florida game is a big game for Jimbo. Lose that game at home, and there will be a lot of doubters emerging. We could have easily hired Mullen instead. He has a punchable face, and he's a jerk, but he's a damn good coach. We probably could have hired Malzahn too, who is 2-0 against Jimbo.

I personally think Anias Smith may end up playing plenty of WR.

The Florida Gators were turned down by Chip Kelly early in their coaching search, but eventually settled on former Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen. Mullen said it was difficult to leave Mississippi State, but added that he knew he couldn't pass up Florida."It was really hard because you have so many great memories, so many great friends," he said. "I got the phone call from Scott Stricklin and he said 'You're the guy we want to hire." Mullen added that after the conversation with Stricklin, his wife, Megan, knew that he was going to take the job. "She said, 'I might as well just go pack, because your face just lit up,'" he laughed. If Florida had hired Kelly, Mullen probably would have stayed at Mississippi State. I doubt he would have left for Texas A&M or any other coaching vacancy.

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/florida-football/dan-mullen-explains-hard-leave-mississippi-state-excited-florida-job/#:~:text=The%20Florida%20Gators%20were%20turned,Mississippi%20State%20coach%20Dan%20Mullen.&text=On%20Saturday%20morning's%20College%20GameDay,couldn't%20pass%20up%20Florida.

Records show that former Tennessee Athletic Director John Currie pursued Dan Mullen. A day before Tennessee neared a deal that would have made Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano its football coach, John Currie remained in pursuit of Dan Mullen for the Vols' vacancy. Currie sent a message on Nov. 25 to Clint Dowdle, who is part of the sports agency group that represents Mullen, asking Dowdle to send Mullen a memorandum of understanding.

https://www.knoxnews.com/story/sports/college/university-of-tennessee/football/2018/03/23/tennessee-vols-dan-mullen-ut-football-john-currie-florida-gators-mississippi-state-texts-records/452597002/

I compared Florida's schedule to our schedule over the past two years. Dan Mullen went 21-5, and Jimbo Fisher went 17-9 with a tougher schedule. In both years, they played Florida State instead of Clemson and avoided Alabama. In games against common opponents, Mullen went 6-4, and Fisher went 5-5. The difference was their win over Auburn, who Fisher is 0-2 against. Mullen is 0-2 vs Georgia, and Fisher is 0-1 vs Georgia. Mullen is 1-1 vs Kentucky, and Fisher is 1-0 vs Kentucky. Both coaches went 2-0 vs South Carolina and 1-1 vs LSU. Mullen is 1-0 against Mississippi State, and Fisher is 1-1 vs Mississippi State.

Both coaches are 2-0 in their respective bowl games. Mullen has NY6 bowl wins over 10-2 Michigan in the 2018 Peach Bowl and 9-4 ACC Coastal Division champion Virginia in the 2019 Orange Bowl. Fisher has a bowl wins over 9-3 North Carolina State in the 2018 Gator Bowl and 8-4 Oklahoma State in the 2019 Texas Bowl. Mullen has guided his team to more prestigious bowls because Florida finished second in the SEC East each of the last two years.

The home game against Florida on 10/10 will be an excellent opportunity for Jimbo Fisher to prove that he is a better coach than Dan Mullen.

This is beyond a valid concern. I still maintain Ausbon was serviceable, but experienced. These young guys are gonna have stars in their eyes week 2. I don't think we have a Waddle or Jeudy waiting in the wings, that remains to be seen though. Mond will most likely have a fairly decent game this week and then go on the road and get smothered. He doesn't handle pressure, especially right up the gut and the good teams can easily exploit that. People keep thinking this year it will be different with him, against good teams, it's never really been the case.

I'm not worried because our best, most explosive WR last year that was able to get consistently open was Anus Smith. So I'm fine with new blood leading the way.

It's why I laugh at Ausbon. In man to man coverage, nearly every pass he caught was with a DB draped on his back. Dude couldn't get open to save his life.
