Don't you guys see? Ross is just taking the 12th Man literally. Only 12 students allowed. He gets us.

Students should get the most seats...

The students are the 12th Man
Kyle is the "Home of the 12th Man"

A sign that said "Home of the 12th Man when not financially inconvenient" would have cost too much

No one knows how big the student section is?
The truth is that the size of the allotment which can be drawn by the students varies from game to game. For games where the opponents do not use all 6000 or so tickets in the visiting allotment, some of those will be made available for students if demand is strong enough. For games with peak demand, where we have the smallest student section, I think that number is going to be just north of 30,000.

As to what it will be this year, that depends on how many season ticket holders opt out. If I just had to take a wild guess, I would say that one third or more of our 45,000 season tickets will opt to sit this year out (since the TMF will let them retain priority for 2021 even if they do so--which is what I'm probably going to do). So, it might be that in a 50% capacity Kyle Field, we may still have a rather large student section.

I think my parents are keeping our seats this year just have a better chance of my daughter (incoming fish) getting to attend games. They are staff seats with almost zero priority so I doubt we'll even get those.

Students first - it's their classmates on the field.

I've been thinking that I'm more likely to let TMF keep my money if they go only students. I'd they just turn around and sell my seats to another former student, then F them.

That would probably be a smart marketing strategy for them: Say that they are starting with a baseline of 5000 seats in the student section, but it will increase for every seat where donors let them keep the money rather than requiring a refund or application to 2021 ticket costs.

More are opting out than some realize....there will be PLENTY of room for students this year.

Alabama is refunding all student tickets for the 2020 season. If I remember correctly you bought a package for half of the games.
