Key notes from Billy’s breakdown on Carper
- He has played and has played quite a bit. He's experienced and everybody on the team knows he's a good player. He's a leader and now he's even more impactful. He could even be a starting safety as a season.
- Carper is a valuable player on this team, very similar to what you would've said about Deshawn Capers-Smith and Roney Elam in the last two years. Those guys can be unsung heroes to a defense. Carper will play a different role than those two guys, but he will be just as valuable. He's more important than people realize, and not just in the locker room.
- There are not a bunch of big-time liabilities in his game. He's not the fastest, so he'll be battling for his starting role. However, he's still a talented safety who knows this defense inside and out.
- We have said this before about guys like Patrick Lewis, but I think Keldrick Carper is a guy who could hang it up and just talked college football. It would be interesting to hear him talk about the game and talk about defenses. He's a quarterback-type of guy on the defense. I can imagine that Demani Richardson will transform into that kind of player in a year.
