Something inside of me tends to agree. Contract extension generates angst among the public if there is a mis-step. On some levels I think this benefits everyone in the SECw.

What he's done is impressive, he's had the advantage of building off what Les Miles left him and he's made some excellent assistant coaching hires. Woodward knows that he's the pied piper of Louisiana right now and if he's ever going to extend him now is the time.

For a comparison that hits close to home, Coach O is 40-9 at LSU, Jimbo would need to win 23 in a row at A&M starting next year to equal that record.

Yea it seems like no matter what he does he is always going to have doubters because of the way he looks and talks. I know one thing is for sure, there are no doubters in the state of Louisiana and he damn sure doesn't care what anyone else thinks now.

The guy can recruit with the best. He can clearly hire all of the right coordinators/assistants. Lsu won the natty because of him and everything he put in place... but that's just it - his success relies entirely on his coordinators. If he doesn't replace them with top-tier coaches then he won't be in another natty. The same can't be said about Jimbo.

But in the end, all I ask is for us to do what O did at least once in my lifetime. I'd take a lifetime of shutouts for 1 natty, unfortunately

I like ED O. The dude works his butt off and I am actually happy he got a Natty after a couple tries at Ole miss and USC.

Look how fast Cizik was gone after his Natty

Life in the SEC comes at you very fast. He lost a ton of talent. He got really lucky that Burrow came and Brady came that same year. Aranda was the best d Coordinator not named Venebles last year.

Ed O is going to have an up hill battle but at least LSU has some money to spend. Next year will be tough but it is 2021 that will really tell them tale if he be a long termer.

But he will always have 2019 from now on.

Coach wins national title and gets raise and extension, and everyone's like he won't last, so dumb, smart move.

O got rewarded by millions for his season, programmed bonuses in his old contract. That is past.

Now comes the issue of Market Price: What will a rich desperate program pay? Pay that or lose him.
USCw would love to get him back for what LSU paid, as would some other schools.
If not tied into Jimbo and Herman, what would Tamu or sips pay?

Somebody paid more per year for more years to another coach recently, and still paying more per year for more remaining years w/o results anywhere close.

This is legitimately one of the most dumb things I have ever read. Congratulations. By your logic should Jimbo fire all of his coordinators so he does it himself? Should Saban? What about every CEO or executive who builds an outstanding team so their company succeeds, because you know they didn't do it themselves... Coach O has built an amazing program from the brink of collapse several years ago. The man deserves respect for what he achieved.
