2020 Covington (LA) linebacker Edgerrin Cooper is an Aggie
Texas A&M added another key piece to the puzzle in the 2020 recruiting class as Covington (LA) linebacker Edgerrin Cooper announced at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio that he has signed with the Aggies.
Cooper received his offer from Texas A&M in November, and the Aggies were quick to catch his attention. He took his official visit on the final weekend before the early signing period in December, and he knew then the Aggies were his choice.
After returning home, he sat down with his family and decided he would make it official during the early signing period.
“Just putting stuff together with all the colleges and seeing what I was looking for,” Cooper said. “[Texas A&M] had everything I wanted.”
“Everybody has your back, and that’s a place I want to be,” he added.
At 6-foot-2, 215-pound, Cooper is a sideline-to-sideline defender with closing speed, cover skills and big hit ability. His high IQ, lateral quickness and nose for the ball make him a playmaking threat on the defensive side of the ball.
He becomes the 22nd signee of the Aggies’ 2020 recruiting class, and he joins Antonio Doyle as the second linebacker to sign with Texas A&M. He is the first 2020 addition from the state of Louisiana.
Linebackers coach Bradley Dale Peveto led the Aggies recruiting efforts, and coach Peveto hammered home one specific message.
“He just wants me to be part of the family,” Cooper said.
In the end, Cooper chose the Aggies out of a final three which also included Utah and LSU.
“The weight room, the apartments, the community, everything, I just loved it all,” Cooper said. “Everything is up to date as far as football. It’s an awesome program.”
