I like the fact we're "trending up," but if you look at Rivals our best recruit is 33 and Clemson and Bama have at least 5 guys committed ahead of our top guy. I like the overall quality, but we need to get some game-changing talent to compete with the likes of those other teams...guys like Stingley, Tua, etc. thoughts?

Simply not true. How quickly y'all omit the top 10 classes Sumlin pulled together.
All one of them?

Perspective: There's 130 programs jockeying for 4 spots to compete for a playoff berth. We had to pay for a man to convince young kids to commit to a historically underachieving program, in order to lay their health, intelligence, and overall well-being to a mystical notion that they would be the game-changers that put us in the upper echelon of college football prowess. It's the chance every commit makes, regardless of school choice, that makes these dreams of institutional alumni a reality. There's a chance, and that's what we pay for, dream of, and ultimately hope for with these types of transactions. Jimbo has a proven track record of success, and all we can hope for is a continuation of that. If it happens, great! If it doesn't after year 5-6, we pool our collective dollars of commitment and try our hand at the next hot name in coaching. I love it, I hate it, and I wouldn't want it any other way, because it breeds the fight for dominance that can only be found in this amateur sport that I love and hold dear to my heart. Here's to hoping! Gig 'Em every chance you get & BTHO Ok St. & everyone else for years to come!

Theres your problem right there.

If you look at 247 composite we had 4 five stars before rivals moved all our commits down.

Demas, Jones, King, and Harris were all 5 stars at one point. There's plenty in this class to compete with Bama.

Internally, Sumlin's classes were light on certain positions and heavy on others (skill players especially). He also had high attrition, but when we arrived he had that "new coach" bump that we see with so many. I want to say it was 247 that had his classes ranked 9th, 5th, 11th, then in the mid teens. Not fantastic, but far from average. Significantly better than the record on the field. As the performance on the field dropped, so did the class rankings. It will be the same with Jimbo if he starts stringing together 7-8 win seasons YOY. Next season should be a huge lift and built momentum.

Not sure why people always bring up $75 million, lots of schools are going to end up paying more than that over the same 10 years. And those schools don't have as much revenue as we do.
This is mostly addressed at people who think we are overpaying and those who get bent out of shape because rival fan bases always poke fun at how much we are paying to be 7-5 this year. With what he has done so far on the recruiting trail given our record, he has been worth every penny.

If he can stack a third top ten class next year, we will be able to win one, or two out of three games vs. the big three in our division in the coming years.

Well.... maybe.

As of right now, our recruiting class is #8 nationally.

but only 4th in the SEC West and 6th in the entire SEC.

If you look at the composite we are 6th and 4th overall. 3rd in the West and that's good enough to beat anyone, if we can keep this going.
