This was posted in a thread on premium, but I felt it should be posted here as well since the zoo is not always the most rational. Before Jimbo, our classes were in the 15-20 range. Now we are recruiting with the top teams in the nation even with a mediocre record this year. Jimbo is clearly a master recruiter and knows how to sell the program and the culture he is creating.

This will actually give us a chance to compete for conference championships, playoff births, and national championships in the long run instead of just hoping to catch teams with more talent on a bad day, or out coaching them. It will also hopefully allow us to quit screwing around with teams like Arkansas, Moo state, and Ole Miss, teams that we will have significantly more talent than every year. It is always a foregone conclusion that Bama, Auburn, and LSU are going to take those teams to the woodshed year in and year out while our games with them have usually been nail biters, or losses.

Not sure why people always bring up $75 million, lots of schools are going to end up paying more than that over the same 10 years. And those schools don't have as much revenue as we do.

To the most profitable team in CFB, 7.5 million per year for a coach is not the same hit as it is to other programs. It's also not my money nor many of the posters here's money, so I never get the complaints about it.

This is mostly addressed at people who think we are overpaying and those who get bent out of shape because rival fan bases always poke fun at how much we are paying to be 7-5 this year. With what he has done so far on the recruiting trail given our record, he has been worth every penny.

If he can stack a third top ten class next year, we will be able to win one, or two out of three games vs. the big three in our division in the coming years.

He's paid $75 million to make us a regular contender in the SEC. Results on the field have been subpar for that but it is encouraging to see the recruiting still spiking.

What about on-field performance?

Sumlin would have found a way to lose to LSU in '18 plus probably 1 other. Sumlin would have found a way to lose 1 more in '19. And Sumlin would have found a way to lose 1 of the 2 bowls Jimbo will have coached in. Assuming a TX bowl win, Jimbo would have gotten us 4 marginal wins in 2 years. He pays for himself even without the recruiting.

19 teams in FBS had 10 wins and made top 25. With top 5-10 recruiting classes we should consistently see 10 wins from 2020 onward.

I don't get how you'd say results on the field have been subpar. You have to look where you're coming from to see where you're going. I like the way our guys are playing much better than the way they were playing just the year before last.

Don't know why people care what we pay him. It's not like anyone here is funding that salary lol

Number of wins depends on your schedule. There are maybe 3 teams who would be 10-2 or better if they played our schedule this year.

After 50-7 Jimbo lost a lot of luster.

It's the same story, different chapter. Fran, 77-0. Sumlin, 59-0. Jimbo, 50-7.

I am afraid, gentlemen and ladies, we have another in a long line of bad coaching decisions to deal with the next 5 years or so.

I am really hoping I am wrong. But 50-7 is really hard to get by. We were totally unprepared for that game.

Jameis Winston and Dalvin Cook cemented Jimbo's coaching reputation. Those two, and a lot of really good role players.

I'd take that 50-7 loss if it's the cost we pay for getting the 74-72 the year before.

Nobody's beating LSU this year. Maybe we pat ourselves on the back for beating them in such a humiliating fashion last year that we gave them extra motivation to get their defense playing along with their offense.

Whatever- I don't care about the score of a single game. Continue flapping your jaws complaining about a single point in time if that's what gets you off. We're trending up and that's all that matters.

We didn't have an impressive victory, didn't beat a team with a winning record, in 4 of our 5 losses, the outcome was obvious before the first half was over.

We are the only one not to have 2 top 10 class in 3 years. I fully expect 2020 to be a 9 win, worst case and most likely 10 or more win season before the bowl game.

You look at the full picture. Jimbo recruits his ass off. If we get to the day where we are 6th ranked and people are saying we are underachieving, then I will laugh. College football is about the jimmies and joes. Jimbo is doing it.

I can say we're trending up because I know football and I can tell our players are playing at a higher level than they have in a long time.

Are you honestly saying that you're going to give up on a team simply because they didn't beat Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Auburn? There are 120 FBS teams. I'd say easily 110 of them would have had exactly the same result with our schedule or worse.

You need to avoid the short term gratification of whining and get the big picture. We're getting better. step by step.
