that the Big 12 and Texas ran away from restarting the rivalry. I don't wanna play them either, but there's no way in hell that you put an unranked 7-5 sip team against a two loss Utah, when an 8-4 RANKED okie state team is right there.

Even more obvious you don't know how bowl selection works

Except that the Alamo Bowl knows that Texas will sell a whole lot more tix than OSU

Bowls actually care very little about matchups and very much about ticket sales and tv ratings.

With having Utah they probably won't sell many tickets so I'd imagine Alamo bowl was chomping at the bit to get Texas.
Utah vs Oklahoma State doesn't scream ticket sales and TV ratings

Hope Utah comes out angry after Oregon destroyed their season. More likely that they lose interest, come out flat, and make texas think they are "back" again.

Tickets be damned, there's now way you screw a team with a better record when they play in the same conference, cuz if that's true (which it probably is) then what the hell is the point of winning games for the bowls and the prestige of the bowls if the "bigger" school will get in with a worse record

You enjoying your first year to watch college football?

I honestly don't give a damn, a win is a win and idc who we beat, but there's no denying that Utah and okie state got screwed, they play in power 5 conferences like the rest of the big boys, you can't treat them like they're FAU
TXAG 05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
How did Utah get screwed? They lost to Oregon and the #2 pac team goes to the Alamo.
BMX Bandit

Ok state didn't get screwed. They finished behind Texas Jn big 12 standings.

And Utah will prefer to play Texas.

Alamo Bowl pays better. And frankly it's a waste to put both school's alumni competing for tickets if they're both not ready to play the game.

This. Texas finished ahead of OSU in the standings, will sell more tickets and is more prestigious opponent. There is no screw job here and no running scared

The BDF has some explaining to do to Okie lite.

They had a better record than t.u. and finished ranked (albeit a contrived ranking to prop up the case for OU in the CFP).

Still..better season than t.u. and this is their reward?

The sips will forever crap on everyone else in the BDF. There will never be a fair shake for anyone in that conference not named t.u or OU.

"They finished higher in the conference"

who gives a damn, your national ranking should trump a contrived conference tiebreaker, it makes you sound like sips last year in bball when they won the NIT

I'm not certain this is the case. OSU travels fairly well and would spend a lot of money in San Antonio. Plus it would make a much better match up and entertaining game. The actual alumni of Texas aren't going to go to this game, well maybe a few will. You will have 15,000 clean cut Utah fans mixed with 40,000 local t-shirt fans from SA (imagine a bunch of fatties from the south side). The 40,000 locals aren't going to spend a penny in SA other than the ticket and a few budwiesers at the game while having 20,000 OK St fans in SA would have been a cash cow for downtown. the restaurants and bars.

What better record? There was a 4 way tie for 3rd place in the BDF. The sips beat 2 of the other 3 including okie st. The sips played LSU and Iowa St played Iowa. That is the only reason they had 7 overall wins compared to 8 for okie st & k-state. Like it or not the sips deserved the Alamo over okie st, and then throw in ticket sales it was a no-brainer.

That's like saying we should be 8-4 because we played clemson, national ranking should trump conference positioning

Really, so if we finish 6-2 next year in conference and beat LSU who also finishes 6-2 but finishes ranked higher, who should go to the Sugar Bowl?
UnderTheHillAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
LSU should if they have a better record and are ranked higher, the only way it makes sense to put sips in that spot is if they were also 8-4

ur argument doesn't make sense bc okie state has one more win, in the case of both teams being 9-2 then yea the conference tiebreaker actually matters, but not if we have an extra win

All yall speculating as experts on the selection process make me laugh when compared to previous bowl prediction threads.

Look at Tennessee... they were given preference on bowl

Elevated to what? They are in the 2nd tier bowl pool and the Gator Bowl isn't some big get. The SEC didn't get enough teams to qualify for all of the bowl tie-ins, so they and Miss St got into the 2nd tier.

Eating flour tortillas and refried beans every day makes you fat. I know because I eat flour tortillas and refried beans every day. I fit right in on the south side when I make appearances there.
