I just wanted to give a shout out and a HUGE THANK YOU to Roy Kruemcke. I believe Roy is a Sophomore and plays the bugle in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.
This past Friday, Winston Beam passed away. Winston played for Coach Gene Stallings and his teammates gave him the Heart Award. Winston was as big an Aggie as there has ever been.
Winston's family wanted to add an Aggie touch to his funeral to make it special. They asked me what to do, and I suggested they have someone read The Last Corps Trip and have someone play taps at the gravesite.
Winston's family put the word out, and for a while it looked like there would be no taps.
That is when Roy Kruemcke saved the day. Roy took the time out of his day and traveled to that little country graveyard in Rogers, TX, and played taps for Winston.
I can honestly say I have never been as proud of any football team or football game than I was of Roy Kruemcke showing up with his bugle and making this happen. He tied a nice bow on the great life of a great man.
Sometimes, being in the right place at the right time means everything. Winston's Wife and family will be eternally grateful, and if Winston could have seen it, he would have smiled real big and given a thumbs up.
Roy, YOU are a WINNER!
