Yep and that's why these games are so important. Sucks sometimes for fans but vital to programs to survive.

Don't mind paying that to a Tx based school; If we are going to continue to play these types of games, we should strive to play Tx schools only: UTEP, SMU, TSU, Rice, NTEX UTSA, Tx based Southland Conference Schools (SHSU, SFA, Lamar, etc). Hell I would even do a I & 2 with Baylor. Keep the money in the state.

I can't say I mind given the rigorous conference schedule and why not help
Out other state programs. Having said that, we need one reasonable quality nonconference opponent every yr.... maybe not Clemson tho...lol

Why? It's not like it's a talented team to run from. At least it would be interesting in that it would be fun to crush them.

Agree, especially on the FBS schools. I applaud the schools that schedule one every year. And they should always be Texas schools.

Its also usually a night game at Kyle.

They are also a good chance for a lot of people to take their families for something resembling a reasonable price. I think the tickets were probably $10 on stubhub. You can get a family of four there with food gas beer and parking under $150 pretty easily. Cannot do that in SEC games. Hell cheapest to ticket to JerryWorld in two weeks is $97.

I agree with this. Lamar was my daughter's first Aggie game. I was able to get some decent tickets for a price that wasn't obscene. Sure it was a boring game, but she didn't care.

Lamar may have been a bigger blowout than most of the cupcake non-conference games, but I'm all for one or two low ticket priced games a year.

Agree . screw Baylor and tu. Wouldn't be opposed to Tech tho ... at Kyle Field.

I'm pretty sure that it's only the FCS schools that you pay to play you, not all those FBS schools you listed.

Not even close. FCS schools have 63 scholarship players. Tuition, room, and board probably total a minimum of $15K per athlete (its probably more). 63 X $15K = $945K ..... so a $650K game check doesn't cover the season but it certainly doesn't hurt.

If I were an FCS athlete, I'd be super excited to get to play in Kyle Field.

Hundreds of colleges have athletics that don't play a P5 school. OOC should be P5 vs P5 only.

Lamar's FB team says it wasn't enough.

I would love to play Baylor again...

It's a big game for them. We know one of the Lamar player's parents and his family, some even flew in from out of state, all came to watch him play.

I see your point but That's pretty close considering it's only one Saturday of the schedule and a 120 mile bus ride. I suspect their football revenue will be better this yr than most yrs for them because of this game .

I note that they visited Tech last yr and took a 77-0 drubbing and there were 35,000 fewer people witnessing it than last nights game. I wonder what they got paid for that?

They forgot the read the fine print where it clearly states Lamar will be paid in chicken wraps. The value of $600K not to exceed 20 chicken wraps. We also gave them a voucher for one green can beer to be redeemed next year.

Nope. No return game means huge payday. Actually pay more to a non P-5 FBS than an FCS.

Most FCS players from TX look forward to games against local P5s.
