R.C.'s youngest son collapsed on a golf course today, was taken to a hospital where he remains in a coma. Our thoughts and prayers need to go out for him, RC and his family.
This happened at a golf course in Midland. RC and his wife Nel were in route to Midland 2 hours ago. In 1999, John Harvey had life threatening successful surgery to correct a heart defect. He is an excellent golfer and successful business man in Midland. If you google John Harvey Slocum's name the story about this event covered by the BCS Eagle will come up.
Fantastic report this am. JH is at his temperature goal. They are discontinuing the paralytic agent and the fentanyl. In someone who has had their temp lowered metabolizes drugs much slower so it may take some time for those drugs to completely clear the system. When they clear they will stop the propofol (sleep agent) and we will wait for him to awaken. The dr said that he is young, has no coronary disease and according to the ems report he received cpr the whole time so he is likely to wake up. His renal function and cardiac function look great. He has no pneumonia or infections. They are starting prophylaxis for blood clots in his legs. Please continue to pray. God has brought us to this point.
Wednesday update on John Harvey Slocum! ************************************************** Good day today. John Harvey is regaining consciousness. Showing very positive signs of good brain function. He is breathing on his own and breathing tube has been removed. Prayers are being answered. Thanks to all those that have sent up prayers in John and our family's behalf.
Played at Green Tree today and talking to some of the members who were there when this happened. JH is a blessed young man, there were some very good people who kept him alive until EMS arrived. He's very well loved by the members there.
Glad to hear he's recovering. God's good, all the time.
Latest update from RC Slocum on Friday. ************************************************** Update on John Harvey: we arrived in Houston around 11:00 pm last night after a long trip from Midland by ambulance in storms most of the way. So comforting to be here where I brought him when he was two days old. We have been here many times over the years. He had open heart surgery here when he was 22. Great staff and doctors. This is in no way meant to minimize the great job done by everyone at Midland Memorial. They literally saved his life. Our family will be forever indebted to the doctors, staff and nurses there. This morning he is in surgery for evaluation and for implantation of defibrillator. Long surgery so please keep prayers coming. Trusting for complete recovery.
