I've always thought this was part of why Fisher came here. Relatively untapped potential and a chance to become a legendary coach that wasn't just following in the footsteps of another legendary coach (Bowden). He seems like a guy who's drive is to achieve that, and put the place he does it on the map.

I guess we'll find out if that's his motivation or not.

Sure Jimbo and Woodward have a great relationship but Jimbo has been given the keys to the kingdom here. If we make the right hire at AD I think it's far from a forgone conclusion that he leaves.

He came here because of the support from the alumni base and AD. Woodward promised him the support he needed from funding and facilities standpoints, and his salary was proof positive that those promises were going to be delivered on. Because of politics, LSU cannot deliver on anything like that. The school is almost broke thanks to Louisiana being Louisiana, so people would flip **** if they paid him what we are or were willing to pony up for faculties upgrades like we are. The local politics and optics simply wouldn't work.

There's a lot more to "money" than just what we put in Jimbo's pocket. I think long term, we have a MUCH higher ceiling than LSU.

Until Saban got to LSU, their history and ours were VERY similar. Some of you younger guys really need some perspective before telling others about history.
Their program is a dumpster fire right now. Their state is broke. If you can't see the long term future being brighter for A&M then I don't know what to tell you. They've reached their max potential. We haven't approached ours.

Y'all are both idiots in regards to jets and Houston from either BR or CS vs car from CS. Either way opne would need a car to get from hobby to the medical center or IAH to the medical center and both are nightmares to navigate. A car from CS to the medical center is faster that a jet to Houston followed by a car to the medical center. Even if they were to use Ellington Field, or any of a number of small airfields in the area.

Which is why it worked well for us for once....

It's one thing if he leaves to go back to his alma mater. I can understand that. It's quite another thing if he leaves because of some power struggle at the top or because a&m "screwed up".

What do we need an AD at this point other than pleasing Jimbo?

We have Buzz, Pat Henry has his outdoor Track and field, we have a new softball field. Basically I like where all of our "other" sports are. ( cure baseball and softball coach rants here)

So Jimbo has a great stadium, great recruiting. Money to pay himself AND his staff ( see Elko) What does LSU have other than Woodard and the perception in Louisiana football kids that they must go there?

First LSU has to fire Ogeron. When is the earliest that could happen? end of next season.

Then Jimbo has to have been upset with the new AD at least which we don't even know who it could be. I agree with someone above. Just make sure Jimbo really wants the next AD and we should be fine.

The distressing part here is losing Woodard, not that it really means Jimbo is gone. A lot more dominoes have to fall for that.

There's no better opportunity than here for a football coach. You've got a blank check for resources, you're in the middle of the best recruiting state in the country, and you're the highest paid coach in college football. As Jimbo said countlessly last year, he feels the support from the top down. Sure, Woodward was a big reason for his coming, but Woodward had to have the approval from the board of regents before he could make promises. Jimbo knows that the new AD will have to get on board with what Woodward promised him.

And I could give a rats ass if Woodward leaves. I only care about Jimbo.

Settle down nancies... Jimbo isn't going anywhere. Did he go to UW to be with Woodward? No.

And re: BLs "A&M dropped the ball", I don't think that is in reference to something that happened now or recently, believe it is related to his compensation which is just average.

Would love to keep Woodward, but wouldn't blame him if he left, he is not just an alum but a BR native.

Jimbo isn't going anywhere, he would not do so just to follow an AD, no matter how good of a relationship they have.

As well, it's not like Jimbo and Woodward are BFFs, they worked together (tangentially) at LSU and have kep in touch, but they haven't even been at the same schools much less same conference until A&M. They may be really, really close, who knows, but Jimbo was saying the right things when he got hire as a move from Florida State required him to say more than "sick of it here, not enough $ and support, poor facilities, fan base is entitled and I'm leaving this s-hole behind".....

Jimbo will be here for his entire contract. He is his own man and isn't going to follow an administrator to another program....

We need to make a strong AD hire, for sure, but everyone settle down with the "Jimbo will follow him to LSU talk". We need to do everything we can to keep Woodward if possible, if he leaves so be it. Even if LSU fired Ed O in a couple of years I don't think Woodward would even try to hire Jimbo, that is extremely rare for a coach to move within a division much less within a conference, and Jimbo has everything he needs here to be hugely successful and compete at the highest level. Jimbo was a short time assistant under Saban at LSU, he's not from LA, has no connection to LA, is not an LSU alum, etc., etc.

We probably could have offered him $100K more than FSU and he would have come, obviously we went with a strong offer he couldn't say no to and that is all part of it. Most people do their job for the money, but it's not like Jimbo is going to leave if he gets an offer for $8 mill. per year vs. what his current contract is.

There were many reasons Jimbo left FSU, not just many reasons or one reason he came to A&M.

Regardless, he isn't going to just follow an administrator....
