Fancy facilities are for recruiting....Therefore it's just plain stupid to spend a lot of money on fancy high school locker rooms when it's not like your trying to attract the top talent. Give them the necessities and make those necessities nice but nothing else is needed.

It's crazy how much money goes into the school systems of this great state (regardless of source) only to have us rank 43 nationally in education.

Nothing is worse than high school football booster club parent egos.
This is unnecessary on every dimension. I have to remind myself that we live in an "every kid gets a trophy" society nowadays.

Agreed, I'm a devout republican, and I'll be making my first democrat check mark this election. It still bothers me. But voting for Dan Patrick is like voting for the monopoly man when it comes to your property Taxes. He won't stop.cecil77 said:
Firstly, electing a Democrat to lower your taxes is problematic, at best.

Why no, no I wouldn't. Those things are part of the educational mission for a school. For the various positives of football, football isn't....
The money from the games goes to the School, not the football program. It's usually the money the principle uses to buy equipment that cannot be purchased by the school or usually pays for Professional Development for teachers. I'm not saying its alot, but in education, 5 dollars is still more than 0. It goes into the schools general account. I honestly have no idea what the football booster program pays for other than school related finances like buses, MAYBE uniforms or if they filter that down into the athletic program as a whole......take some from football to help basketball/soccer etc.cecil77 said:
From what I've seen of the average HS football program, it hardly shows a profit that goes back into the school. HC salaries alone. And, if that were true, there would be no need for football booster clubs.

Yep, those towns have nothing else driving their economy.
It is necessary for those schools.
For a school like Southlake, Katy, or Memorial, it's completely unnecessary.

You're right. I should totally have to send my tax money to another district. Who doesn't like to contribute more than their fair share.

Socialism at its grandest in the State of Texas: the Robin Hood Plan.
My wife and I chose where to live in Texas when we moved back from Georgia. We could have moved almost anywhere in the the state in the 1990's - we chose Plano for the schools for our children (now graduates of A&M).
"Robin Hood" robbed our school district of millions of tax dollars.
Now we drive through plenty of Texas towns in our travels across the state, shaking our head at the facilities that were built by the towns that benefited from those tax dollars.
Such is life in the State of Friday Night Lights.
(and don't get me wrong, I love Texas high school football. I still go to a number of regular season plus playoff games each year, and attend 2-4 of the Texas High School playoff finals almost every year).
