You don't even know the difference between bond money and educational money.

I'll explain: bond money is "free money" can't be spent on classrooms.

Never mind the waste of money servicing these bonds- that should be spent towards education. It's free money!

Fancy facilities are for recruiting....Therefore it's just plain stupid to spend a lot of money on fancy high school locker rooms when it's not like your trying to attract the top talent. Give them the necessities and make those necessities nice but nothing else is needed.

Am I missing something? That just looks like a clean locker room. One where someone bought a $300 barber chair for. Craigslist and stuck it in the bathroom.

It's crazy how much money goes into the school systems of this great state (regardless of source) only to have us rank 43 nationally in education.

There is a reason Texas ranks poorly in standardized test scores and it has nothing to do with money.

Nothing is worse than high school football booster club parent egos.
This is unnecessary on every dimension. I have to remind myself that we live in an "every kid gets a trophy" society nowadays.

Yep. They don't seem to understand that the point of the program is to go 6-4, have a couple of bro hugs, lose a first round playoff game to some school that has a fast running back, and get on with their lives.

I've been coaching for over 30 years. Spent a couple years in a 3A school, the majority of time in a 5A school. I moved three years ago to a 6A school. I coach Golf now, instead of FB. I have a great budget, my team is pretty strong, so we travel extensively, I've even got an indoor golf building to use when its cold. Despite all that, I spend 1/4 of my time trying to raise extra money. I've never worked at a place that didn't have Booster clubs / parents raising money or looking for donations. I don't begrudge any program that is building something better than the Jones's. I will however, agree that the Robin Hood plan is wrong.

You do realize the average player is wearing $1k in equipment ...

So 7 or 8 more kids deciding to play football cost this much...

Weightrooms cost much, much more.

Our booster club paid for a lot. Sell gumbo a few times a year and we always got new unis.

1. You can't stop this, your not going to.
2. IF YOU WANT LOWER PROPERTY TAXES YOU NEED TO VOTE OUT DAN PATRICK, not trying to get political but.....hes the one raising your property taxes. Of all the property taxes collected in the state, before Dan Patrick education used to receive 44% of those funds, now your local school districts only receive 38%, thus calling the districts to call for an increase in property taxes.
3. Are schools supposed to be crapholes? that is two thousand dollars max. MAX. So basically out of YOUR taxes that you paid into, find a quarter on the ground. That is what you paid for that couch. you got your money back your welcome. It's more than likely 3-4 times the amount YOUR taxes paid for that couch.
4. taxes are the devil, but if every cent of my taxes went to public education/schools. ID BE A-OK and content.
5. IS the coach not allowed to get excited about stuff?
6. What if this was computers/welders/stoves/ovens/sewing machines/microscopes would you complain then?

Firstly, electing a Democrat to lower your taxes is problematic, at best.

Why no, no I wouldn't. Those things are part of the educational mission for a school. For the various positives of football, football isn't....

Agreed, I'm a devout republican, and I'll be making my first democrat check mark this election. It still bothers me. But voting for Dan Patrick is like voting for the monopoly man when it comes to your property Taxes. He won't stop.

1. Football brings in revenue that is not collected by the taxes that goes back to the students.
2. they can't do that if they suck.
3. That money collected then helps teachers with items school districts cannot and will not pay for.
4. GENERALLY, people are ok with football upgrades/purchases, but to spend 10k on a welder that will help a student earn a job down the road apparently is disastrous and usually is filled with red tape.

From what I've seen of the average HS football program, it hardly shows a profit that goes back into the school. HC salaries alone. And, if that were true, there would be no need for football booster clubs.

Nothing special... many have indoor facilities, turf at all the middle schools , phenomenal weight rooms, That room doesn't even have screens. Many do. WestLake and lake Travis in Austin, South lake, Allen, and many others in Dallas ...all have nicer facilities that most colleges outside of power 5

The money from the games goes to the School, not the football program. It's usually the money the principle uses to buy equipment that cannot be purchased by the school or usually pays for Professional Development for teachers. I'm not saying its alot, but in education, 5 dollars is still more than 0. It goes into the schools general account. I honestly have no idea what the football booster program pays for other than school related finances like buses, MAYBE uniforms or if they filter that down into the athletic program as a whole......take some from football to help basketball/soccer etc.

In my experience the profit from football went into the general fund and and the superintendent and board of trustees decided where that money would be used.

You're right. I should totally have to send my tax money to another district. Who doesn't like to contribute more than their fair share.

Socialism at its grandest in the State of Texas: the Robin Hood Plan.

My wife and I chose where to live in Texas when we moved back from Georgia. We could have moved almost anywhere in the the state in the 1990's - we chose Plano for the schools for our children (now graduates of A&M).

"Robin Hood" robbed our school district of millions of tax dollars.

Now we drive through plenty of Texas towns in our travels across the state, shaking our head at the facilities that were built by the towns that benefited from those tax dollars.

Such is life in the State of Friday Night Lights.

(and don't get me wrong, I love Texas high school football. I still go to a number of regular season plus playoff games each year, and attend 2-4 of the Texas High School playoff finals almost every year).

What does their lady's basketball team locker room look like? I'm sure it is about the same...

Another way to look at it - locker room pays for itself if a few kids are driven to keep their noses clean in order to be able to play on that team and be able to hang out in that locker. I grew up with a lot of guys who were motivated to stay in school and behave just for sports.
