The stadium experience is great for students - standing in the heat, being noisy, not caring about game times or schedule conflicts, and being able to potentially walk home or to a place to eat while the traffic dies down. The stadium experience is a young man's game in the stands, and a rich man's game in the suites.
I priced out a trip to Jerry world when the A&M Arkansas game first fired up. I live in the Dallas area, so seeing my Ags play without a hotel or long drive would be quite a treat. Cheap seats were $110 x 4 family members + ticket handling fees put the tickets at just shy of $500. Parking was $40. Food would be between $50 and $100. Add a 2-3 game day souvenirs and we were well over $700 with at least a 5-6 hour commitment. I compared that to the cost of a new TV and spending only 3.5 - 4 hours on the game, not to mention flipping channels to catch other games during commercials, halftime, and timeouts. I would miss the Aggie Band and the game day atmosphere, but that was the only real downside.
It's tough to spend that kind of money where there are so many other options. Live sports have priced a lot of people out of the stadiums. I love my teams, but I have to love them from afar.
I support my Aggies 100% win or lose, without complaint and without reservation.
