Same **** will happen to Chavis at Arky. Offense will go 3 and out every other possession, defense will be smoked by halftime, and the game will be busted open in the 4th qtr. And as other posters said, he has even lesser talent to work with.

A high tempo offense with low TOP does not work well with Chavis' mentality. He would of been a great fit for Bielma tho.

The downfall of Chavis' defense so many times at A&M was the offense invariably would go in a streak of three and outs where they burned less than a minute of the clock.
This usually occurred in the 3rd quarter leaving the defense totally gassed the in the 4th.

Bet he still pinches a fat snuff.

The downfall of the Chavis Defense, was the lack of multiple, experienced, SEC linebackers! How qiuckly we forget. He was working to fix the problem! Tyrel Dotson, Buddy Johnson, Santino Marchiol, Anthony Hines, all recruited by Sumlin/ Chavis Deshaun White was firmly committed (OU)! The problem is everybody wants right now results. Chavis can still coach!

Downfall of Chavis here wasnt one thing only. 3 things came together and you certainly cant say it was just a poor offense that hurt as he had plenty of poor offenses at LSU.

1: Not having the top tier athletes he had at LSU.
2: A culture that was already starting to wane and not demand as much as his culture at LSU did
3: An offense that had wayyy too many 3 and outs

Its just hard to feel that we weren't cheated by the previous staff.

Sumlin was paid by a top 10 coach but did not perform like one.

It's not hard to feel cheated if you don't live and die by it.

One of my buddies talked to a former A&M defender who played in the pros. When Sumlin was fired his response was "at least the defense will sweat in practice now." He told my buddy that practices were soft and the defense wasn't allowed to hit hard and sometimes not allowed to take players all the way to the ground.

I blame Chavis for our players being out of position, but I started to realize how soft of a program we really had starting at the top. The SEC analyst that said we are "charmin soft" had seen practices. It pissed me off at the time, but we see he wasn't lying...

Listening today to 610 in Houston at lunch, had Clint Stoerner former QB at Arkansas talking about how excited he was that Arkansas got Chavis to be DC. When asked about how Chavis defenses did not perform well at A&M; he stated how A&M got by on raw talent, that he actually attended practices while doing media work and was amazed how undisciplined they were conducted. Stated that most coaches play music etc, but he had never witnessed players taking pictures with cell phones before during practice.

Correct, he is not a soft coach, but he's developed a bad case of the **** its. Not a good look from an SEC legend that we paid a lot of money for and really didn't do much better than Snyder at the end of the day.

But, you know, moto speeches about "do my job" and wolfpacks and shlt was good enough for Sumlin.

I lay the discipline and softness issues at Sumlin's feet. Chavis didn't make the offense soft, and he didn't have anything to do with the team being soft before he got here. If Sumlin wasn't going to maintain discipline team wide and ruin physical practices, there's not much a DC can do. I think he got sold a bill of goods coming here under Sumlin.

I agree that was sold a bill of goods, but he was st least expected to perform. It seems like his defenses regressed each year. The ASU game was amazing, but we never saw anything like that ever again. Liucci even said that Chavis did essentially nothing for most of last season

I think we saw a lot of good defense under Chavis, but also a lot of undisciplined players. Chavis can scheme and coach all he wants, but if the executive at the top is setting the wrong tone and running a program with no discipline, there's not much he can do. At the end of the day, the players have to go out and consistently execute, and it's impossible to scheme and call plays when your players aren't consistent.

Chavis could still be successful in the right situation imo. It wasn't the right situation here and it won't be at Arky either imo.

He did some amazing stuff at LSU. He had great talent there but that's not enough by itself. To me he put LSU in a position to win vs Bama multiple times when they had no business being in the game.

Had Arky hired Les Miles then Chavis would have been a good DC hire imo.

Some posters on here sound like a scorned woman that constantly throws mud at her ex boyfriend...
