Anyone notice season ticket sale. 6/5 to 6/11?
That's because you are a casual fan. That's not meant as an insult, it just is what it is.Uncle Jimbo said:
They still won't sell many at that rate. They still don't realize how things are trending. We spent half a billion dollars to expand our stadium's capacity in an era where attendance is shrinking.
The bottom line is that I can sit at home in my air-conditioned house on my leather couch and watch the game in brilliant high definition on my 120 inch projector and drink my own good beer and good food without having to drive hours or spend a fortune on a hotel room. Also, I still have enough of the day to be on the golf course or go fishing.
Disagree...I have no desire to split hairs over a pissing contest to see who the bigger fan is, but I am as crazy about a&m football as anyone.Quote:

I'd rather be tailgating all day and at the game. I can sit on my couch any day of the week and drink beer. It's a lot more exciting to be at the game, and being at home watching the game is dull to the diehard fan.

So you'd rather see one close play a game that you'll be able to see over and over again (plus can generally tell at a game on the big screen) vs being able to see the missed wide open receivers in real time, if it is a zone/man, how agressive the teams are being. Who was actually at fault in real time vs the little part of the play you see on a screen?Bone6 said:Disagree...I have no desire to split hairs over a pissing contest to see who the bigger fan is, but I am as crazy about a&m football as anyone.Quote:

My first 5 years after graduating I drove into College Station for every game, but then I hit a tipping point as I gradually came to the conclusion that you can follow a game and see tight, close plays so much better with a 65+ inch HD TV then you can at Kyle even with especially good seats. The reality is despite having a 120 yard field, football is a game of inches where it sucks sitting so far away from a close play (even with good seats).
Of course I still make sure I'm at Kyle for the atmosphere and tailgating of the biggest 1-2 games a year, but it's a much better football watching experience at home.
In a sense, you are both right. The question is how many folks love Aggie football so much they're willing to spend all day at the game. I think we have found that number is smaller than the 12th Man thought. I gave up my season tickets this year. Really price wasn't as much an issue as the time commitment required. They could almost give those tickets away and would still have empty seats.Mostly Cloudy Judgement said:That's because you are a casual fan. Failure to want to attend a game doesn't make one a casual fan. I often work on Sat. mornings. I also often have to attend other football games or other events. I also have responsibilities at church on Sunday, making evening games -- especially with my other Friday and Sat. activities, almost impossible to attend. Yet, I still have the same view at the poster you referenced with this comment on Saturdays I might be able to go to. Trust me: I'm NO casual fan. Of the Aggies, college football, or football in general. If you said that to people that know me well, they'd laugh out loud.
I would have to build my life during the fall around the Aggies football schedule if I were to attend games regularly and I can't or am unwilling to do that now. Perhaps you don't have that issue and attending is easy for you. But that doesn't make me casual and you whatever the opposite of casual is.

For me nothing beats the gameday experience live and in person. Been traveling 3+ hours to each home game for the last 24 seasons and hope to continue for at least 24 more !Bone6 said:Disagree...I have no desire to split hairs over a pissing contest to see who the bigger fan is, but I am as crazy about a&m football as anyone.Quote:

Bullseye. Good post. Where are y'all in Spence?Bunk Moreland said:
If and when Jimbo starts winning at Kyle Field again, everyone on here will be *****ing about how expensive tickets are, and calling out Ags who sell extras to the highest bidder rather than "good Ags."
The apathy that had set in is due to Sumlin not being able to field a team in the last 4 years that could hold serve at Kyle Field. That takes a toll on folks. Including me and my family.... And we have season tickets and tailgate in Spence etc.
The last season we sold/gave away all but 3 games because the tailgating effort was too much for the return on investment for us.
However, it wasn't due to 65 inch tvs and cold beer in the fridge. As others have said, nothing replaces a fun day of tailgating with family and friends and seeing an A&M game live at Kyle Field.
And before I **** on Sumlin too much, there's no way anyone who watched UCLA or UT in 2016 from home had the same experience as those who were there.
But the gut punch of seeing mizzou, auburn, lsu, msu etc live year over year wore everyone out.
TL;DR.... Win and this isn't a discussion.
